Default Tonight Show staff fired because of Strike, Jay Leno cheap?

Wow. Thanks Jay.

Posted Nov 30th 2007 4:50PM by TMZ Staff
Staffers at the "Tonight Show" were just told they've been laid off because of the WGA strike. Happy F-ing Holidays.

And that's not the only thing adding insult to penury around NBC. As TMZ reported earlier, we were told that Jay Leno was in a giving mood, offering the staff a "big" Christmas bonus to get them through the strike. This, instead of offering to pay their salaries like his counterparts Conan O'Brien and David Letterman. Well, someone just sent us a copy of their bonus check. $100. Wow.

Staffers were supposed to receive $100 for each year they've been on the show, but we're told some didn't even get that. We hear many staffers are more hurt than pissed, as there's been little communication from the top. One source says that they weren't too pleased about how Jay's handled the layoffs. He didn't even say goodbye, much less Merry Christmas. Grinch!

A call to a rep for the "Tonight Show" was not immediately returned.

Bad, bad publicity.

Did hear earlier on the radio that a settlement is immanent, wonder how true that is.

If he was trying to give her a taste of her own act, it backfired.

People are giving Carson Daly a hard time but he is trying to protect 75 people's jobs. I am neither pro nor anti union. I think at some point you have to protect the jobs of the non-strikers though.

Jay Leno would know funny if it bit him in the...jaw.

Kathy's taken some cheap shots at other people though. Remember when she was E!'s Golden Globes pre-show host and said Dakota Fanning had just gotten out of rehab?

Yeah and it was funny because she was mocking stupid celebs AT a celeb event! lol. Plus Dakota hasn't ever had any issues so she was a "safe" pick.

Gotta love her!

That whole NBC studio in Burbank needs to be torn down. It's so old and plain looking. They need to move that show to New York or rebuild a whole new studio. I don't know what the staffers expect--$10,000 bonuses when they work in a building that would be welfare offices?

Yeah, I heard something about Conan not sure if he wants to even air The Tonight Show from there once he takes over Leno's job and I don't blame him. If he wanted to stay in New York, I'm sure it's for good reason. I love Los Angeles but that NBC lot could be better. They LOOK like they're on a budget. The lay-off's come at no surprise...lol

NBC to bid bye-bye to Burbank

10:03 AM PDT, October 11, 2007 [/color]
NBC Universal is dropping the curtain on "beautiful downtown Burbank."

The media company, which made the town of tract houses the butt of endless jokes, but also brought it prominence as the base of "The Tonight Show," is decamping to nearby Universal Studios.

its long but here's the link to the rest of it.

It was time...and I see this was just printed last month. Fairly new news, thanks for posting it for me to read. I've been to the Tonight Show and the Ellen show several times and yeah, it's a bunch of trailers. They don't even have parking available. You have to drive around the block and find residential parking in the street near Johnny Carson Park.

That Universal Studios location, I believe thats where Craig Ferguson airs his show. Anything would be an improvement than the NBC studios lot. It's hard to believe that's where Elvis filmed part of his 1968 comeback special. I believe it was Studio 1. We went on a tour and we walked into that studio and I was like THIS IS IT?! It must've been the shit back in 1968, I guess...lol

I like the location of Jimmy Kimmel's show, right in the heart of Tinselton on Hollywood Blvd. Nice theater and that back lot where they have the outdoor concerts is really convenient. I saw Justin Timberlake there once and it was crazy--so much fun.

I guess things have changed at the NBC lot. I took my MIL and my mother to see The Tonight Show (no way could we get tix to the taping of The Golden Girls - totally sold out) and we parked in a lot right next to the bldg. Didn't even have to walk far. I was amazed at how small the actual taping studio was.

Do they use the same one that they used years ago? What's really weird is that I can't remember who we saw that day. It was someone B-List because I would remember a major star.
