Default Andy Garcia pays tribute to slain football star

Andy Garcia is paying a hero's tribute to Redskins Pro-Bowl safety Sean Taylor, who died Tuesday after being shot inside his Florida home during an apparent break-in.

The actor's niece, Jackie Garcia, was with her football star boyfriend Monday night when they heard loud noises. She reportedly hid in the bedroom with their 18-month-old daughter, also named Jackie, while Taylor, 24, went to investigate.

"His heroic action on that tragic night saved their life and is a testament to his humanity and courage," the Ocean's Thirteen star said in a statement to the Miami Herald. "His spirit will live forever, in our hearts and through the legacy of his achievements and the family he leaves behind.”

Jackie and the football star were high-school sweethearts at South Florida's Gulliver Preparatory School and attended the University of Miami together.

"Sean was known to many as an extraordinary athlete and unquestionable teammate,'' Andy Garcia, 51, added. "To those of us who had the good fortune to count him as a member of our extended family, we will always remember him as a caring and loving individual."

The Miami-Dade police director said Wednesday that authorities have "no reason to think this was anything other than a burglary or a robbery." They have no suspects in the shooting.

About 2 weeks ago the home was broken into and a butcher knife left on the bed. Makes me think it's more than a robbery or burglary.

Okay, let's settle this. I get Clive Owen, George Clooney and Christian Bale, y'all can fight over everyone else.

I totally don't think he was "JUST" a burglary. I live in DC and this is all that's on the news. People say his lifestyle = his death. That's bull. Nothing justifies being murdered/targetted for a murder (which I think is the case here). Besides, what burglar doesn't steal something twice?

andy Garcia is hot.

Andy Garcia in 'When a Man loves a Woman' is the hottest dude on the planet, hands down. Godfather 3 notsomuch...

Anyway, I am doubting this was just a random robbery also. Someone was out for him, or it certainly appears so. Why though???

^ Well the Godfather 3 was a bad movie in general but yes Andy is smoking hot!

There's no way this is a random act, he was targeted IMO. I mean the "burglars" went straight for his bedroom. I'm still sad

Men who get shot in the groin usually get shot there for a reason. I bet some scorned chick did this.

It's too bad though to hear that he left behind a long term girlfriend and a child.

Yeah, this wasn't a random act. Somebody was after Taylor. Why break into somebody's house twice and just leave a knife, but you don't take anything? But I don't think the person intended to kill him, otherwise they wouldn't have shot him in the leg. Now, I'm hearing talk that maybe the girlfriend might have been involved, intentionally or unintentionally.

The knife seems like a warning.
