Cops to Orlando: Bad Crash, No Problem

Posted Oct 15th 2007 4:35PM by TMZ Staff
    Filed under: Celebrity Justice
Orlando Bloom smashed into a parked car at around 2:00 AM on Friday after partying at a club, leaving a passenger with a fractured neck. Speaking of leaving -- Orlando left the scene, came back, was never given a blood-alcohol test -- and he's getting off scot-free!

TMZ photogs captured video of Orlando getting into an argument outside the Green Door in Hollywood just after 2:00 AM. The accident occurred shortly thereafter.

X17 got video of Orlando walking away from the scene of the accident, only to return after paparazzi repeatedly told him that leaving would constitute hit and run. Bloom eventually came back and accompanied his injured passenger (who suffered a fractured neck) in an ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Bloom's rep says he immediately called 911 and characterized the fractured neck as a minor injury. She is silent on Bloom walking from the crash scene.

Cops now say they are on the hunt for an SUV that may have cut off Orlando, allegedly causing the crash. They also tell TMZ that walking away from the scene, like Orlando did, isn't necessarily hit and run.

Bullshit. It's against the law to leave the scene of any accident that you were involved in, whether you were at fault or not.

Cop Translation: Orlando's a celebrity so he can do whatever he wants.

We don't even know how far he walked. Gimme a break. It's not illegal to walk 10 ft outside of the accident. Leaving and not coming back to claim responsibility is a hit and run.

The paps are desperately trying to make him sound dirty so they can plea innocent on the entire thing when they're the ones who were following him hounding him.

Actually any attempt to leave the scene of an accident, even if you're just walking down the block and coming back, is illegal.

Ok then. Guess the cops don't know wtf they're talking about. Stupid cops!

Just for fun (mainly because I was recently in an accident and left the scene to go home and call the police/get my cell and a camera, so this is kind of interesting to me) I looked it up:

Hit-and-run is the crime of colliding with a person, their personal property (including their motor vehicle), or a fixture, and failing to stop and identify oneself afterwards. In many jurisdictions there may be an additional obligation to exchange information about one's financial responsibility (including any applicable insurance) or to summon emergency services if they are needed.

Seriously... Did y'all think he was literally leaving? I don't get why people actually think he was just... leaving. Cuz... ya, I'm sure he was just gonna walk home from there, especially when the paps were flashing away.

Maybe he was leaving the scene to find a mirror to make sure his hair didn't get messed up from the accident.

Well, it's been my experience that you can't leave the scene for any reason. At least, that's what all the cops I know have told me.

And you said that you went home to call the cops. Now, had you went home, and the cops shown up and you weren't there, that would have been a different story.

This accident happened right in front of our friend's apartment. My boyfriend got a call early in the am telling him about it - before it hit the news. We were told that Orlando was drunk, from what our friend could tell, and tried to leave the scene. Definitely smells like cover-up to me. Our poor friends - this is the second accident in the year they've lived there. The first one involved someone hitting their parked car - basically totaling it - and driving off.

Exactly, which is why I always thought a hit and run involved someone hitting and literally running away from the scene so they wouldn't have to claim responsibility---meaning there's no exchange of information, calls, talking etc. I had exchanged my information but it was both of ours first accident so neither of us knew if we should call the police, so we didn't. But I decided to go home and call them because I realized I should get a police report. Unfortunately the police didn't even come out because they... I don't know. Guess they don't deal with such small accidents.

I'm just mentioning this now because based on what y'all are saying, I wouldn't be surprised if you considered what I did a hit and run and I think it's bs.

No, I wouldn't consider what you did a hit & run. But, legally, it would be considered leaving the scene of an accident, which doesn't always involve hitting somebody and speeding off. It could be just what Orlando was trying to do. Having a crash, get out the car, and start walking away.
