Hospital suspends staff for allegedly leaking George Clooney's medical information

Palisades Medical Center suspended dozens of doctors and hospital employees after they allegedly leaked George Clooney's medical information to the press following his motorcycle accident last month, WCBS is reporting.

According to the report, hospital officials are investigating whether staffers not directly involved in caring for Clooney and his girlfriend, Sarah Larson, logged into the hospital computer system to review his medical records.

Clooney's reps had no comment on the story, but did point out that they were contacted by a member of the press who had the details of the accident an hour before any statement was released.

Calls to the Palisades Medical Center were not immediately returned.

Computer systems analysts at the hosptial have access to knowing date, time and who was looking into Clooney's and Larson's files. Hospitals record phone lines and can tell who leaked what.

Cant believe I am agreeing with you but... you dont give out ANY medical info unless a patient signs and says its OK or if the next of kin is necessary to make such decisions.

I say no everytime I am hospitalized and NO ONE can find out ANY info on me unless I am unable to answer questions by the staff for myself. Even a simple question of if I am there or not.

I work in a hospital and HIPAA is taken very seriously there. Hospitals can be heavily fined for staff giving out medical info. We do not speak to the press about any accident, overdose, child neglect, etc. Our PR person gives the usual "no comment" reply when the newspaper and radio stations call for info. It's crazy that the employees at that hospital would so easily give out information.
