Angelina Jolie wants to adopt a baby from Burma to add to her 'rainbow' family

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt want to expand their "rainbow" family by adopting a child from Burma.

The couple have enlisted the help of one of the country's leading monks to plan a trip to an orphanage.

She is said to be desperate to offer help to troubled nations, and feels the repressive Republic of Myanmar, or Burma, is the ideal place to adopt another child – preferably, a girl.

The actress already has four children. She adopted eldest son Maddox, six, from Cambodia five years ago, prior to her relationship with Pitt. Two years ago she and Pitt, 43, adopted an Ethiopian girl, Zahara.

Earlier this year the couple adopted Pax Thien, three, from Vietnam and last year Angelina gave birth to their daughter Shiloh.

The source said: "Angelina feels she is barely making a dent in the suffering she sees throughout the Third World as she travels incognito to different countries as a United Nations representative.
"She wants to step up her action in what she calls Red Alert areas, the most seriously troubled, war-torn areas in the world.
"She's in talks to go into Burma and help with students and AIDS victims who are suffering terribly."
The source added Angelina had been talking to a monk about a safe travel route through the military state and a visit to an orphanage.
She is said to believe adopting another girl would balance her family and a child from Burma would fit into its racial mix.

It is understood she has acted as a mentor to the actress after helping her with the adoption of Zahara.
According to the source, Angelina's frustration at not doing enough to help the Third World is exacerbated by her sense that she and Pitt spend too much time in Hollywood.
She is also said to have become depressed after the death of her mother, French actress Marcheline Bertrand, in January. The actress has blamed her weight plummeting to under 7st on her grief.
Angelina has spoken in the past of her desire to start a "rainbow" family of children adopted from nations all over the world. She recently said: "Ever since I was about 12, I've always wanted to adopt – I don't know why. We want to have a big, big family."

I think they are surrounded by reporters/photogs when they go out. That is why they are carried, I would imagine.

Zahara apparently has some sort of congenital hip malformation that requires surgery and makes it difficult for her to walk. I think I read that she is getting the surgery in the next year or so. I assume that is why she is often carried or in a stroller.

If they want to adopt more kids, more power to them. The kids seem happy and they are always taking them places and spending time with them. So the more the merrier.

I dated a guy who was one of ten children and they are a super close knit family. All highly educated, well adjusted, kind people. He said people used to call them crazy or freakish, making comments about "birth control" etc. I think that is just so uncool. People need to mind their own business and focus on the single teen mothers who are on their 4th kid and excepting medicaid. Tying tubes in that scenario is a fantastic idea! The Pitts can afford the kids and seem to love spending time with them. Let them adopt away.

WTF?? How is 'child collecting' really helping the Third World? If she wants to help then fine, great..-but using that as an excuse to cover her incessant pathological child collecting nature is just disgusting. Raise money, hold a benefit concert, go on TV and talk about it, etc etc etc but child collecting is NOT helping the damn third world. Stupid, crazy, nutcase, self-absorbed brotherfucking bitch!

The ego! There always have been a lot of people working very hard for many years in many places round the world who are barely making a dent. What makes her think she can make a dent by herself?

On an individual basis, she has helped the kids she has adopted but she alone can't make a real dent in the suffering. She can help by raising awareness, sure, but to actually make a dent? By herself?

To achieve that, she'd have to overthrow corrupt governments, change policies, stop practices such as female circumcision, interfere with beliefs in witchcraft and voodoo, change the weather patterns to prevent drought, force women to take contraception when it may be against their beliefs and bring feminism to some places. Whew!
