Charlie Sheen & Denise Richards custody battle over daughters heats up

The custody dispute between Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards intensified Wednesday after the actress asked a judge to protect their children from her ex-husband.

Sheen angrily responded, saying that Richards "behaves as though she owns our children. She does not. A day of legal reckoning for her is fast approaching."

The latest scuffle in the battle between Sheen and Richards over daughters Sam, 3, and Lola, 2, began with the actress's Superior Court filing.

The document was not yet released, but her attorney said that Richards is seeking "the assistance of the court to obtain orders to protect her children" from Sheen.

"She believes that Charlie has significant personal issues which he has failed to address and which require her to take action to protect her children," says lawyer Neal Raymond Hersh. "This is not a vindictive action. Any responsible parent in Denise's shoes would go to the ends of the Earth to protect her children."

Her lawyer didn't state what those "issues" were.

Sheen countered by releasing a statement: "Clearly the mother of my children has no interest in responsible co-parenting when it comes to my relationship with our girls. "

He added: "The truth will prevail. It always does."

Sheen, 41, and Richards, 36, exchanged legal blows last month, when Sheen filed a request to family court asking that he be allowed to select his own child care providers, and that Richards cease her "unnecessary phone calls."

Richards filed for divorce from Sheen in March 2005, when she was six months pregnant with their second child.

In November of last year, a court legally ended their status as a married couple; however, their divorce is not yet complete. Still at issue is the final division of assets and custody arrangements over their daughters.

I always see Denise with her kids, she always looks happy to be with them, and i know people are going to say 'blah blah its all staged' but whatever. Charlie is abusive and I'd hate my kids to be around that, whether it was their father or not.

I love Denise, Team Richards.

Denise is a whore and pimps out her kids for publicity. I agree with Charlie's past that perhaps a period of supervised observation with the kids is probably a good idea, but the court will decide in the end. On the other hand, I wouldn't trust Denise as a "gatekeeper" either. She hardly has the best judgment in the world.

I am tired of seeing Denise and her grumpy pissed off looking kids. They are tired of being dragged in front of the camera. It is possible to go out with your kids in public without the whole world taking pictures.

Please, she clearly calls the paps every time she's out with her kids. She is always in full hair and makeup for those "candids." Belch.

I find it hard to sympathize with Denise for the simple reason that she knew what Charlie was all about when she married him and chose to have children with him. If he's staying out of trouble then he has every right to those girls as she does. To be honest, both of them seem to be nuts.

I'd probably go out dressed up too if i knew my picture was going to be taken. I dont see anything unusual about women being in full hair and makeup when they go out and I dont think Denise is that done up, i've always seen her in simple summer dresses, a ponytail, and sunglasses, and nver a full face of makeup either; most women dress like that; and as for the 'unhappy' children on her arm, I always had a scowl on my face when I was a kid. And I was a spoiled brat so it had nothing to do with either my mother or father's parenting.

And on a different subject; how is taking her kids to kids movie premieres or the park, doing normal activities like that, 'pimping them out?' If she was never with them, people would be criticizing her for that too.

Well, I like her so I guess I'm part of a small club lol

I only have one thing to say about this really, and that is if a nanny was coming home and stating these things to me that she has declared to the court in her testimony, and that Charlie was threatening to hit Sam and then demonstrated just how ''Daddy'' was going to do it on the dog, I would be pretty much down in htat courthouse myself screaming at the judge that there is something very amiss in the custody situation.

Also, I wonder why there has been a change in status from ''appeared to be undersage'' (last year) to Denise being more definite that these girls are underage. Has Charlie's ''investigation'' on the web become even more degenerate?

There's actually a definite change in tone here. I wonder if Charlie really will lose his overnight visitation. I also wonder why he has already got his fiance apologising for him, he's hardly worth it.

I think she has mental issues that should be resolved. I would think if Charlie was that bad, he wouldn't have another fiancee already.

Oh he could definitely have another fiancee already if money and publicity was involved wink wink. She already has a movie coming out, co-incidentally she announced it the time she and Charlie got engaged. She knows what she's doing this one.

He has had "surpervised" visits since their separation, no? Her nanny goes with the girls when they go with him, right?
