Shaq files for divorce

MIAMI (AP) - Shaquille O'Neal has filed to divorce his wife after nearly five years of marriage, his attorney said Tuesday night.

Attorney Ira Elegant said the petition was filed on behalf of the Miami Heat center in Miami-Dade Circuit Court on Tuesday. It was not immediately clear who is representing Shaunie O'Neal in the case.
The Heat did not have an immediate comment, and Shaquille O'Neal did not respond to a request for comment made through the team.
According to the filing, which was first reported by The Miami Herald on its Web site Tuesday night, Shaquille O'Neal is asking Shaunie O'Neal to provide a "correct accounting of all money, funds, stocks, bonds, and other securities" that she had access to or obtained during the marriage.

They are the parents of six children; Shaquille and Shaunie O'Neal had four together, and each had one other before their Dec. 26, 2002 wedding.

Shaquille O'Neal makes $20 million annually in his contract with the Heat, plus endorsement deals that are estimated to be worth several million more each year. The couple has also listed their home on Miami Beach's posh Star Island for about $32 million, or roughly $13 million more than they paid for it after O'Neal was traded to the Heat by the Los Angeles Lakers before the 2004-05 season.

The marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken," says his petition, filed Tuesday by attorney Ira Elegant.
The O'Neals have four children together — Shareef, 7, Amirah, 5, Shaqir, 4, and Me'Arah, 1. Shaq has a daughter, Taahirah, and Shaunie has a son, Myles, from previous relationships.

The family lives on Miami Beach's exclusive Star Island. They bought an $18.8 million estate in the summer of '04, at the time of his trade to the Heat. It is for sale — No. 32 is asking $32 million.
Shaq, 35, and Shaunie, 32, wed Dec. 26, 2002, in a lavish ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Shaq, then with the Lakers, gave Shaunie a ring with 17 carats of diamonds.
The two have a "Cohabitation/Prenuptial Agreement and Acknowledgment of Property Disclosure and Waiver of Further Disclosure," the petition says. A copy of their agreement "will be filed ... under seal" — if the court allows — and "contains extensive provisions providing for confidentiality and non-disclosure."
In the petition, O'Neal refers to the Star Island mansion as "the former marital home."
Shaunie, he says, has been "secretive about her assets ... particularly with respect to certain properties owned or titled in either her name alone or in other entities." He wants the court to order Shaunie to give a "correct accounting of all money, funds, stocks, bonds, and other securities (including bearer securities)" that she came into during the marriage.
He makes $20 million a year, with three years left on a five-year contract worth $100 million.
Shaunie should be "primary residential custodian" of their children — meaning they'd live with her — and he should get "liberal rights of visitation," he says.
Neither the O'Neals nor Elegant could be reached for comment. No word on who represents Shaunie. Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Roberto Pineiro has the case.

He cheated on her constantly and she turned a blind eye. there's no way that she could have known. I wonder if she cheated. I love these sports guys that are serial cheater but, as soon as the wife cheats then they're all offended and file for divorce as if they're the injured party

I can't believe the way so many people are worried over her financial situation. The bitch can get up and get a job and EARN some money on her own. Women do it everyday, she isn't any better than any other woman just because Shaq knocked her up 4 times.

The fact that she has six kids, most of which are pretty young complicates that a bit. He makes good money and can afford to support his family. I am not in favor of men who impregnate and then try to ditch both financially and/or paternally. Not saying that Shaq is planning on doing that but she should not have the financial responsibility of raising those kids alone. I do not support dead beat dads whether they make $20,000/year or 20 million/year.

Plus it is not like she was some passing fancy...they were together for quite some time.

Kobe Bryant made comments about Shaq's lack of monogamy when he got caught up in his legal mess. I respect that Shaq got his education and loves his mama but he is a pig boy none the less and would not be shocked if he has or contracts HIV or Hep B. He is a nasty boy like so many professional athletes.

His wife deserves alimony simply for risking the plethora of venereal diseases he exposed her to.
