Britney Spears now being investigated for alleged child abuse

Britney Targeted in Child Abuse Investigation

TMZ has learned Britney Spears is being investigated for possible child abuse.

An unscheduled hearing was held today at L.A. County Superior Court. Present -- Britney's lawyer, Dennis Wasser, K-Fed's attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan and a lawyer from the Los Angeles County Counsel who is assigned to the dependency court.

We do not know the specifics of the allegations but we're told the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services is conducting an active investigation.

A hearing in the custody case has been scheduled for September 4, which will be a follow up to today's appearance.

A rep for Britney did not immediately return our request for comment.

According to People she hasn;t had a nanny in about a month, which is the most frightening thing!

I'm sure she fired or the last nanny quit. People talked to one of her ex-nannies who said when Britney comes it at 3 am she wakes the babies "so she can see them" and then she goes and passes out while the nanny has to then get back to sleep.

There have been plenty of 'trainwreck' celebs..but really..has any of them been this damn clueless about their 'trainwreckness'? She just does not seem to have a damn brain cell left..Brit you are facing a custody battle and even the dimmest bulb would have at least some semblance or scrap of self-awareness left to realize that this might be a good time to straighten your shit out..or at least make some attempt(whether real or not) to straighten up just a little bit? Damn! she must really be THAT dumb.

She was so protected by her mom and management for so long, we never really got to see how just plain stupid she really is. Completely clueless, and quite frankly, I have seen enough. There is nothing - absolutely nothing she could ever do to convince me that she isn't the dumbest person on the planet.

Doesn't she constantly strip in front of people just to ask if she's hot..and use the toilet with the door open and whatever else she supposedly does?
