    Default Soho Karen arrested

    I think there's a thread about this story - I just couldn't find it .

of course her lawyer is also blaming the Uber driver, saying that if he had returned her phone 15 minutes earlier, this never would have happened.

I put a few different articles in the post - sorry it's so long

Police arrest woman who tackled and falsely accused Black teen of stealing her phone

The woman who was caught on camera attacking and falsely accusing the teenage son of jazz musician Keyon Harrold of stealing her phone in a New York City hotel was forcibly arrested, police said.
Ventura County officers coordinated with the New York City Police Department to arrest Miya Ponsetto, 22, on a fugitive warrant in front of her home in Piru, California, on Thursday, according to the Ventura County Sheriff.
A spokesperson for Ventura County Sheriff told NBC News Thursday Ponsetto did not stop her car after officers contacted her until she reached her home. Officers forcibly removed Ponsetto from the vehicle, saying she resisted arrest, refused to get out of the car, and tried to slam a car door on one of the deputies, the spokesperson said. It was not immediately clear what charges Ponsetto faces, but she awaits extradition to New York.
In an interview on Thursday, attorney Sharon Ghatan said her client, who was not a guest at the hotel but was intending to check-in, briefly left her items unattended in the lobby when she went to retrieve an item from Starbucks in the restroom.
When she came out, Ponsetto realized her phone was missing and asked several people in the lobby, including an “Asian gentleman,” whether they had taken her phone, Ghatan said.
The next people she asked were the Harrolds, who had just left the elevator, Ghatan said. A one-minute viral video of the Dec. 26 incident showed Ponsetto accosting the Harrold family before reporting her missing phone to management.
Tensions escalated, with Ponsetto allegedly attacking 14-year-old Keyon Harrold Jr. Police in New York City said the father “sustained scratches to his hand,” but no other injuries were reported. His father has suggested racial bias played a role in the altercation.
In an interview on Thursday, Ghatan, who is also representing Ponsetto in an unrelated case, doubled down on Ponsetto’s mental health issues and said the incident was “not about race.”
“She suffers from a lot of anxiety attacks,” Ghatan said. “She was alone … 22 years old in a city she doesn’t know, absolutely nobody there and her phone had everything about it.”
Ghatan said she was concerned for Ponsetto’s well-being, saying she was “emotionally and mentally unwell.”
On Tuesday, the attorney confirmed that her client left her phone in an Uber. Ghatan said that had the Uber driver returned her phone 15 minutes earlier, the altercation would not have happened.
“She lost her mind for a hot minute. She is sorry," Ghatan said. "Sadly, these poor Harrolds had to deal with the aftermath.”
Ghatan added that her client wanted to “move forward and put this behind her.”
Ponsetto was charged with public intoxication and battery for a Beverly Hills hotel incident on Feb. 28, according to court documents. She was also arrested on May 28 for driving under the influence in Van Nuys, California, court documents show.
A hearing for the charges related to the Beverly Hills incident was scheduled for this month, Ghatan said. In September, a judge at the Van Nuys Courthouse West sentenced Ponsetto to three years of summary probation after she pleaded no contest for driving under the influence.
Ghatan said she has been unable to reach the civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing the Harrold family.
More than 100,000 people signed an online petition posted by Crump, who called for Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. to bring assault and battery charges against Ponsetto.
“Keyon Harrold Jr. will live with this trauma for life, the weight of racism on the shoulders of another generation,” Crump wrote in a statement. “He deserves better than this treatment!”
A spokesperson for the Manhattan DA previously said that the office was "thoroughly investigating this incident."
At a news conference on Dec. 30, Harrold, accompanied by Crump and the Rev. Al Sharpton, spoke publicly about the incident.
“I can’t even come downstairs in New York City — prime New York City — and just go brunch without being attacked and wrongfully accused of something,” Harrold said. “The idea of trauma goes above any charge that could ever be had.”
“I want my son to grow up whole,” Harrold said.
In an interview with ABC's “Good Morning America” on Dec. 29, Harrold Jr. said he was “shell-shocked” over the incident.
"I would ask her why would she do something like this to a kid who has never met you at all, and I would just ask why," he said.

“Soho Karen” Miya Ponsetto — who was busted in California for allegedly assaulting the 14-year-old son of jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold at a Manhattan hotel — nearly slammed her car door on a deputy and needed to be yanked from her ride during her arrest, authorities said.

Ponsetto, 22, kept driving when Ventura County deputies tried to stop her near her Piru home around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, local police said.
But she wouldn’t stop until she pulled up to her home — and even then refused to get out of her car, police said.
“She tried to slam the door on one of the deputies and that’s when they just reached in and forcibly removed her,” department Capt. Eric Buschow told the Associated Press, adding that the sheriff’s office would request that county prosecutors charge her with resisting arrest.
Ponsetto was booked at a pre-trial detention facility in Ventura, where she is being held without bail for the fugitive warrant, according to police.

She will remain there pending a hearing regarding her extradition to New York.
The NYPD had issued a warrant for Ponsetto’s arrest and detectives recently traveled to California to question her about the attack.
Ponsetto made national headlines when she was caught on video accusing Keyon Harrold Jr. of stealing her iPhone at the Arlo Hotel. Video posted to Instagram by the teen’s father shows Ponsetto allegedly attacking Keyon and trying to snatch his phone.
Prior to Ponsetto’s arrest, her lawyer, Sharen Ghatan, told the AP her client is “emotionally unwell” and remorseful for her Dec. 26 conflict with Keyon.
“She strikes me as someone who’s unwell,” Ghatan said, adding that her client “lashed out” over worry about her phone disappearing and the act wasn’t racially motivated.

Miya Ponsetto arrested for assaulting Black teen, falsely accusing him of theft

Gerren Keith GaynorThu, January 7, 2021, 10:52 PM EST

A lawyer who represents the California woman known as ‘SoHo Karen’ says she has ‘not grasped the severity of her circumstances’
Miya Ponsetto, the California woman known as “SoHo Karen” for falsely accusing a Black teen of stealing her cell phone and subsequently attacking him at a New York City hotel, has been arrested after nearly two weeks.
Ponsetto was taken into custody in Los Angeles after being located as a result of a collaborative investigation led by the Ventura County Sheriff’s office and NYPD, TMZ reports. Ponsetto had traveled back to California following the Dec. 26 incident and had reportedly been evading law enforcement at her mother’s home.

Miya PonsettoThe 22-year-old faces charges for assaulting a 14-year-old and attempted robbery.
As theGrio previously reported, Ponsetto stormed inside the Arlo SoHo Hotel in Manhattan accusing Keyon Harrold Jr., 14, of stealing her iPhone. She also charged at him and dragged him to the ground. Harrold’s father, Keyon Harrold Sr., was also present and filmed the encounter which went viral the day after Christmas.

Despite initially claiming she was the one who was assaulted, security footage would later confirm that Ponsetto was the only aggressor. Since then, the Harrold family has retained legal representation and publicly demanded that Ponsetto be arrested.
According to TMZ, Ponsetto has a history with breaking the law. She’s been arrested twice for a DUI in 2020 and was charged for public intoxication with her mother in Beverly Hills. Recently, Ponsetto claimed her attack was a result of her anxiety, however, as theGrio reported, Harrold Jr. is seeking therapy for his own mental health after the ordeal.

Keyon Harrold Jr. (Twitter) and Miya PonsettoAccording to the report, the teenager asked his father, “Why me?” after the now-viral moment.
Ponsetto’s attorney, Sharen H. Ghatan, told TMZ that her client is “emotionally and mentally fragile,” has “gone rogue” and has not heeded her lawyer’s advice.
“Miya has not grasped the severity of her circumstances. She is expressly disregarding advice and has gone rogue,” Ghatan said.
“I had an in-person meeting with Miya today, and after seeing her in person, I was able to determine she is simply unwell. She is emotionally and mentally fragile. I was forced to cancel national interviews due to my concern of her wellbeing and lack of understanding of the process. I am here to guide her as legal counsel – but if she is unwilling to take my advice, there is not much more I can do.”

Was she "emotionally and mentally fragile" when she drove drunk as well?

And I'm sure she wants to "move forward and put this behind her" but she might have to do that from the big house.

Retrieve an item from the bathroom? Where she had just arrived via uber? How many lines do we think she did?

This woman was still on parole from previous altercations? Did I read that correctly?
She has some issues. Here is a video from an earlier - last October DUI arrest. Let's just say that subtlety is not her cup of tea.

I have to wonder, where is this girl's family? I understand she's not a minor but she's still pretty young and obviously needs some kind of intervention. Is she just a spoiled Beverly Hills rich kid? She lives in California, what was she doing in NY? Noticed this in one of the above articles:

The intervention she needs is a judge and some court supervision. I’m tired of black people constantly being treated like criminals when we have done literally nothing wrong. She traumatized that teenager. And the manager took HER side. Thank God for everyone having phones now and being able to record things. In the past black people would just be killed or jailed over BS allegations like this. Tired of this and tired of women like her engaging in this shitty behavior.
