Default Megan Fox suffered ‘psychological breakdown’ from being hypersexualized

Megan Fox got candid about the traumatic effects of being hypersexualized in Hollywood.

Ten years after filming “Jennifer’s Body,” Fox told Entertainment Tonight she suffered a breakdown in the lead-up to the movie’s release in September 2009.

“I think I had a genuine psychological breakdown where I wanted just nothing to do,” the 33-year-old actress shared.

“I didn’t want to be seen, I didn’t want to have to take a photo, do a magazine, walk a carpet, I didn’t want to be seen in public at all because the fear, and the belief, and the absolute certainty that I was going to be mocked, or spat at, or someone was going to yell at me, or people would stone me or savage me for just being out … so I went through a very dark moment after that.”

Fox felt like she spiraled into an even deeper hole when she spoke out about being treated poorly by “Transformers” director Michael Bay, saying she felt like no one cared. Even worse, her career suffered for opening up about Bay.

“I feel like I was sort of out and in front of the #MeToo movement before the #MeToo movement happened, I was speaking out and saying, ‘Hey, these things are happening to me and they’re not OK,’” Fox told the outlet. “And everyone was like, ‘Oh well, f–k you. We don’t care, you deserve it.’ Because everybody talked about how you looked or how you dressed or the jokes you made.”

The “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” star said it wasn’t until she started her family with husband Brian Austin Green that she started to feel normal again.

“I think it took getting pregnant ― that was the first real breakthrough where my consciousness shifted and my mind opened up and I was able to see from a bird’s-eye view and breath and take it in,” she reflected. “And then another kid, and then another kid and with every kid I feel like that’s always been the doorway into a better version of myself.”

She and Green share three sons: Noah, Journey and Bodhi.

For once i feel that she makes valid points here. She was treated badly and when she said so, she was pictured as difficult. No-one took her serious back then.
She did say some really stupid stuff, but that was not related.

I believe her. Megan said something similar to another publication on how she was not the "perfect victim" to speak on MeToo.

When she spoke on Bay's harassment a decade ago, she faced backlash and was pretty much blacklisted.

In another interview, Fox recalled how Bay had her “audition” for her Transformers role by washing the director’s Ferrari while he filmed her. Fox also accused the director of being like “a dictator” and a “nightmare” on set, comparing him to Napoleon and Hitler. If Fox had made those statements today—after the fall of Harvey Weinstein and Les Moonves, and at the height of the Time’s Up movement—the actress would likely receive a much different response than she did in 2009.

Bay offered an apology, but not the kind that would suffice today: “I know that’s just Megan. Megan loves to get a response. And she does it in kind of the wrong way. I’m sorry, Megan. I’m sorry I made you work 12 hours. I’m sorry that I’m making you show up on time. Movies are not always warm and fuzzy.”

As if that response was not cutting enough, three anonymous members of the Transformers crew wrote a disturbingly misogynistic open letter that Bay published on his official Web site. (Bay has since removed the letter.) In it, the crew members called Fox “dumb as a rock,” unprofessional, “Ms. Sourpants,” a “grump,” “thankless,” “classless,” “graceless,” and an “unfriendly bitch.” An excerpt:
“When facing the press, Megan is the queen of talking trailer trash and posing like a porn star. And yes we’ve had the unbearable time of watching her try to act on set, and yes, it’s very cringe-able. So maybe, being a porn star in the future might be a good career option. But make-up beware, she has a paragraph tattooed to her backside (probably due her rotten childhood)—easily another 45 minutes in the chair!”

When you came in the air went out. And every shadow filled up with doubt. I don't know who you think you are, But before the night is through,I wanna do bad things with you.

I'm not a huge Megan Fox fan. But Bay is quite believably as a misogynistic prick and throw good ol Shia LeBeouf. Yikes. Wasn't there something about her being possibly stuck wtih Brian Austin Green like he got her pregnant and she couldn't leave?

I wonder how all her PS plays into these feelings. She looks so different than she did back in the day.

How could she not leave? She had plenty of money and spousal consent laws have been abolished, so she could have had an abortion.

I never hated her as much as most..... some of that stupid shit she said even back in the day was clearly having a stab at Hollywood and the situation she was in..... and she was constantly just dismissed as a 'bimbo' regardless (her own surgery/image choices certainly didn't help).

Remember the studio being pissed off at her for calling Bay a Hitler control freak, where the control freak part was completely ignored and the studio just got offended by the use of the word "Hitler" where it was then even suggested that producer Spielberg was the angry one...... for a nice distraction from what she had actually said about Bay and the sleazy car/bikini casting.

Glad she worked out what was more important to her...... never did like that husband of hers though, just bad vibes man and the gossip around their relationship certainly didn't help with that perception or the vibes.

I never particularly cared for her, and at some point on Youtube I stumbled upon Lindsay Ellis' video essay "framing Megan Fox", and that put a lot of things into perspective. It's a very thorough, documented and insightful analysis on Megan Fox's personality, appearance, filmography, and how everything was held against her because of all that, regardless of the validity of what she was saying.

I actually feel for her now, and I can understand why she'd have a breakdown after all that was thrown at her

I kinda feel that all these points apply with her and she's not the most sympathetic 'victim.' If she hadn't had so much ps and shown a blank face most of the time, she might have been taken more seriously as an actor and a woman. I also don't think her marriage is all that (they nearly divorced) so there are other things going on.

I've always had an icky feeling about their relationship. She was I think underaged when she got a crush on him.
I think she announced thier split then suddenly her pregnancy with the youngest.
They also cut out his son with Vanessa Marcil which is really shitty.

I remember seeing pics of them with his son. If Green has cut his son out from his life, that makes him a shitty dad & person. If he did it because of her, he’s still the one who I lay the blame on, because that is his son (if he really has been estranged from his son by his own doing)

This shouldn't make her less of a victim though: we can't just believe or be more sympathetic with those who look and behave "like victims should".
(Of course I am not saying this is what you did, Rollo - just a consideration that came from your comment).
I think in her case being beautiful truly was a blessing and a curse, since it's what made her famous, but has prevented her from being taken seriously.

^It's more complicated than that because she had a complete face transplant. She was alright looking before. Clearly Hollywood messed her up (as it tends to do) but she went along with it and she's still in it . It's unfortunate that she mentions 'a better version' of herself because people automatically think of her ps. She could have said she is a work in progress, I guess, but that's another truism.
