KYLIE MINOGUE revealed that her diagnosis and battle with cancer over the years is the reason why she didn’t have children and how it affected her life.

Kylie Minogue, 50, was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2005, at the tender age of 36. Not only did the diagnosis make the star question her future, she also drew a halt to her impressive singing career and was forced to bow out of her Glastonbury festival performance slot has had been booked to play the same year.

Speaking on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, Minogue said of her diagnosis: “Listen, this is an opportunity for me to say something I have not said before.
I was misdiagnosed initially. So my message to all of your and everyone at home is, because someone is in a white coat and using big medical instruments doesn’t necessarily mean they are right.”

Initially Minogue had a mammogram where nothing was detected, however, a couple of weeks later she found a lump.
The singer then underwent a lumpectomy where it was discovered she had breast cancer. I have a great respect for the medical profession and the numerous, in fact, countless, people who helped me on my road back to health.
I am in the very best of hands now, but it is a fact that my initial diagnosis was that I was, 'Alright, and had nothing to worry about’.

“A few weeks later this was clearly not the case. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment is the key for any woman diagnosed with breast cancer.”
The diagnosis of breast cancer shook her world and put motherhood on the back burner.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, Minogue said: “When cancer strikes, you have to consider all that. Trust me, there’s a point when the next person says, ‘Well there are many options’, you want to scream.
“Of course it’s great that there are options. It’s marvellous there are options. But when you’re dealing with all the other stuff and things you took for granted are taken away from you, it’s like, yes, there are options but…
“I guess you have those visions of what would my child look like, be it a boy or girl? What would I see of myself in them? That’s saddening but I’ve thought about it for a long time and I’ve had to face that for a long time.”

Fortunately Minogue made a full recovery and was able to fulfil her previous commitment of performing at Glastonbury this year.
Recalling the ‘circumstances’ that left her unable to previously perform, an emotional Minogue put on an incredible performance leaving fans bursting into chants of “Kylie! Kylie!”
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the UK.
Symptoms of the disease include a lump in the breast, a change in the size or shape of the breast, an inverted nipple, a rash on the nipple, or discharge from the nipple.
If you suspect you might have any of these symptoms it’s important to speak with your GP.

I thought that this was very well explained.
Obviously, I have a lot of empathy with Kylie’s situation (my gynie cancer was diagnosed during IVF - welcome to *my* world).

People choose or not choose to have children.
For those of us that are not given a choice, it's a horrible feeling, and you literally feel like your mourning someone you never met, but would have loved more than anything in the world.
