Tina Turner reveals husband gave her kidney for transplant

LONDON (AP) - Tina Turner has revealed that she underwent a kidney transplant with an organ donated by her husband.
The 78-year-old singer says in an upcoming autobiography that she has suffered from kidney disease, and by 2016 her kidneys were at "20 percent and plunging rapidly."
She says her husband, Erwin Bach, "shocked me by saying that he wanted to give me one of his kidneys." Turner says she was "overwhelmed by the enormity of his offer."
Turner, whose hits include "Proud Mary" and "What's Love Got to do With It?," married German music executive Bach in 2013 after a long relationship.
Extracts from "Tina Turner: My Love Story" were released Saturday by publisher Penguin.
In the book, Turner encourages people to sign up to donate organs.

Wow, I didn't hear anything about her being sick. I'm so happy she's doing well. I love her and I so happy she found the happiness she deserves.

The chances of a non blood relative being a match are next to nothing. So that is really something if true.

Although it is rare, there's a thing were two biologically unrelated people who have shared a longstanding intimate relationship can actually successfully donate an organ. I'm not to hot on the technical/medical ins and outs but I think it has something to do with continued exposure to body fluids making the recipient's immune system 'used to' and more accepting of the donor's organ and antibodies. I remember reading about another couple who had been able to do this after being married for thjirty years or something.

Either way, it sure as shit beats the steam iron Bloke got me for my birthday one year...

One of the most misused words in the English language. I'm sure she was actually happy with it.

Well Ike for damn sure wouldn’t have done this. Not that he would probably have had a healthy one to give anyone in the first place.

Ike would be more likely to break her kidney than to offer one of his own.

I don't know anything about this German dude but he's a star in my book. I love Tina and I'm glad she got to stay with us longer.

The DM are serialising her book at the moment and there are new revelations every day - mostly about how violent her past was. Such a great performer and yet so troubled in her personal life. I'm glad she seems to have found happiness at last but it doesn't sound as if she has been well at all for the last few years.

Her performances are powerhouses of fury and energy. Singing and dancing at the same time and then going into the next song. Full on again. She was amazing, but exhausted me to watch. No one could match this lady ever.

Tina Turner, 78, dazzles in blue velvet at photo call for her hit musical's German premiere

    23 October 2018

The musical about her turbulent life has already been a smash hit in the UK.

And now Tina Turner hopes to replicate that success when her autobiographical show Tina - The Tina Turner Musical opens in Germany.

The 78-year-old dazzled in a blue, crushed velvet blouse and pants at a photo shoot for the show's premiere in Hamburg on Tuesday.

The Tennessee-born songstress was joined on the red carpet by Kristina Love [R], who plays the musical icon on stage
