Default Swedish DJ Avicii dead at 28

Swedish DJ Avicii dead at 28

Artist, DJ and producer Tim Bergling, a.k.a. Avicii, died Friday afternoon in Oman, according to a statement from his rep. He was 28.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” the statement reads. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”

He had retired from live performing in 2016, citing health reasons. He had suffered from health problems for several years, including acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking. He had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.

He posted the following statement on his website last year:

WE ALL REACH A POINT IN OUR LIVES AND CAREERS WHERE WE UNDERSTAND WHAT MATTERS THE MOST TO US.

For me it’s creating music. That is what I live for, what I feel I was born to do.

Last year I quit performing live, and many of you thought that was it. But the end of live never meant the end of Avicii or my music. Instead, I went back to the place where it all made sense – the studio.

The next stage will be all about my love of making music to you guys. It is the beginning of something new.

Hope you´ll enjoy it as much as I do.

I guess I'm clueless. I thought DJs only played other people's music.

My daughter is standing over me as I type this. I asked her if she knew who "DJ Aveesi" is. She said, "You mean Aveechee (pronunciation) you uncultured swine???"

I said he just passed away. She had no idea.

ETA -she laughed out loud at Ms. Darks's "cut a bitch" sig. She said, "That's from Spongebob" (I didn't recognize Patrick's "hands")

Very sad. He was way too young to die.

A few years ago, when Wake Me Up was popular, the music teacher at the school where I worked had the 4th graders perform that song. It was so weird to have 4th graders singing that song -- the lyrics didn't seem very appropriate or hopeful for them. It was an odd choice.

He was first a producer then became famous for playing his music live in stadiums for like 50k+(as a DJ]. He literally composed music digitally and could teach a master class at it. He started at 16 and he also played instruments. My husband was a club DJ in the EDM scene for nearly 20 years and blokes like Avicii were some of the coolest cats out there. I never met him but knew other international deejays like him. EDM scene is so full of drugs and alcohol and Avicii was a sweet soul who didn’t really fit into that per say but he drank a lot and struggled with it. Club producers and promoters will keep plying the deejays with free drinks all nite just as long as they fill the dance floor.

Me too. It's such a beautiful video, the hope and love in their eyes.

Of course I had to look up high jumping in the Olympic games 1968 and it was really there that a new backwards style of high jumping was invented by Dick Fosbury called the Fosbury Flop. And he even looks really close like the actor in the video. Learned something new today.

What made me love Dick Fosbury even more is when I learned this about him:

Dick Fosbury is today a member of the "Champions for Peace" club, a group of 54 famous elite athletes committed to serving peace in the world through sport, created by Peace and Sport, a Monaco-based international organization.[25]

He also ran for seat in the House of Representatives in Idaho (as a Dem) in 2014 but lost to a republican.
