He lived 50 remarkable years longer post diagnosis than most people with MND and during those years he made a huge contribution to our understanding of the universe. RIP Dr Hawking.

Very sad loss. But we were lucky to have him as long as we did. Incredible man.

Omg he was on my mind earlier today. It is truly remarkable he lived so long suffering with ALS. I wonder what the world record is for the longest living ALS survivor. He will be greatly missed I will tell you that. The earth doesn’t make great minds such as his very often. He was as compassionate as he was intelligent which is a combo you don’t see every day. I thought I read he also had a big sense of humor too. RIP.

Side note- does anyone know if the Queen ever knighted Stephen?

^He turned down a knighthood supposedly because he wasn't happy with the UK's science funding.

Oh he was a very witty man. On the ‘eureka!’ moment: ‘I wouldn’t compare it to sex, but it lasts longer’.

Truly a remarkable man. My daughter saw him on TV and was fascinated by him. She was just reading a kids science page about him.

    RIP.

This one has hit Bloke in the feelz. Professor Stephen Hawking was on of his heroes.

In a strange quirk of fate, he was born on the 300th anniversary of Galileo's death and died on the anniversary of Albert Einstein's birth. March 14th is also known as Pi Day.

    He will be missed.
We need more people like him, bright, compassionate, and with a great sense of humour.

RIP. The Theory of Everything is worth seeing too even though I don't think he liked it.

Fascinating man. I barely understood a thing he ever wrote about. (shrugs)

    RIP, Mr. Hawking.
