Jerry Van Dyke Dead - Comedian & Actor Dies at 86

Jerry Van Dyke, an actor, comedian, and younger brother of the legendary Dick Van Dyke, has died at the age of 86.
The entertainer passed away on Friday afternoon (January 5) at his family’s ranch in Arkansas. His wife Shirley was by his side, she told TMZ.
Jerry and Shirley were involved in a car accident two years ago and his health has never been the same, she said.
Jerry‘s career began on his brother’s show The Dick Van Dyke Show and he later became best known for his work Coach opposite Craig T. Nelson.
We send our thoughts and condolences to all of Jerry‘s loved ones during this difficult time.

Oh dear. Little brother going first is so sad. Loved him on Dick Van Dyke show when he was his brother who sleep walked. He appeared to be totally awake and played the banjo but he was sound asleep.

That's a good long time to be brothers.

Aaaw, that bottom pic was from The Middle in which they also played brothers and Dick as the oldest one was still dancing etc. and the younger brother made up all kinds of excuses for not getting up from the couch because he was walking with a stick. My dad also survived all his younger siblings. Must be hard on Dick.

He was hysterical on Coach...a true scene-stealer.

Poor DVD. First Mary, then Rose Marie and now his brother....hold on, brother.

I've always loved them both. RIP, Jerry.

It is, though, a good long time to be brothers. My Mom was the oldest of eight- she died in April just short of 93 and she was the first sibling to go. They were all born in Holland, went through truly tough times, and seven are still alive and kicking. We were blessed.

^Wow, I'm sorry about your mom, but truly blessed, indeed. Both my parents survived most of their (younger) siblings, my dad even all his 5 younger siblings. They lived to be 93 and 92.

My mom is the 4th of 9 kids; the first to pass away was actually the youngest, my aunt who was in her 60's at the time (she suffered some kind of episode and crashed her car into a pole; from what we were told later, apparently a heart vessel ruptured on impact and the CPR that was performed by the paramedics was actually making her bleed out faster). The next was then my oldest aunt, who was in her late 80's-early 90's. Just a few months ago, another of my mom's sisters passed away at 93, another younger sister (?88) passed from Alzheimer's complications about a month ago. She still has an older brother who's 95, she'll be 92 in June, and has 3 younger brothers as well. It just occurred to me, she's the only sister left...

Jerry was so underestimated but so, so talented and funny. He lived a long, good life and I truly hope he rests in peace. Godspeed, sir.
