Unhappy Lemmy Kilmister, Motorhead frontman, dies at 70

Lemmy Kilmister, the frontman from Motorhead, has died ... TMZ has confirmed.

We're told the singer passed away just after 4 PM Monday. He had been battling serious health issues, forcing him to scale back on his alcohol and tobacco habits. He had been smoking for 57 years.

Lemmy was credited for starting the mutton chops craze back in the '70s.

The original Motorhead drummer, Phil Taylor, died just last month after a long illness.

    Lemmy was 70 years old.

    R.I.P.

Lemmy Kilmister, lead singer of the heavy metal band Motörhead, has died aged 70, PEOPLE can confirm.

The news was first reported by radio personality and longtime friend Eddie Trunk, on Twitter.

The band's official Facebook page then released a statement confirming that Lemmy had passed away "after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer".

Ozzy Osbourne followed Trunk with tributes on Twitter, writing: "Lost one of my best friends, Lemmy, today. He will be sadly missed. He was a warrior and a legend. I will see you on the other side."

Lemmy – real name Ian Fraser Kilmister – was the founding and sole constant member of the band who formed in 1975 and have sold over 15 million albums worldwide

There is no easy way to say this…our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.

We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words.

We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.

Celebrate the LIFE this lovely, wonderful man celebrated so vibrantly himself.

    HE WOULD WANT EXACTLY THAT.

I'm not a heavy metal fan at all, and I still adored Lemmy. Dude made a sport of not giving one single fuck.

both vids are Triple H's Entrance theme songs

    from Wrestlinginc.com-
Lemmy from Motorhead revealed in a recent
    interview with
Metal Hammer that Triple H called him and asked if they would record a cover of the Rolling Stones classic Sympathy For The Devil for him. Motorhead created Triple H's current theme as well as his previous one. Lemmy agreed and it will be released on their new album, Bad Magic, on August 28th. Lemmy didn't specify if Triple H requested the song as a fan, or so that it can be used by WWE in some fashion, like for a pay-per-view theme.

Both themes are by Motorhead (Lemmy)

Refusing to believe this is true. Someone like Lemmy cannot die!

RIP Lemmy, you will be missed. Didn't even know he was sick.

My favourite Motorhead song is not very famous and it is beautiful:

The DM has what they say are the last pictures of him about 10 days before his death, looking thinner and more frail (can't post from my iPad):

I'm so bummed. Anyone else knocked sideways when they saw he was 70? Damn, I'm old!

RIP, Lemmy. You will be missed.
