Default More Bad News For OJ Simpson

I'm smiling from ear to ear.

According to a report in Daily Mail, O.J. Simpson is unable to walk without a cane and fears he will leave prison in a wheelchair if he isn’t allowed to get the surgery needed to fix his knee.
A prison insider told the newspaper that Simpson had been seen walking around the grounds of Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Center with a cane, telling fellow inmates he was furious with prison officials because they wouldn’t allow him the proper care he needed to fix his deteriorating knee.
“I can only get mediocre health care in here,” Simpson reportedly told an inmate. “And it really pisses me off because I have the money to go to any specialist in the world to get knee surgery but they won't let me leave to get help. They don't give a damn that I am going to end up crippled and can't walk for the rest of my life.”
The source revealed that Simpson’s knee problems have started to affect other aspects of his well-being, saying that unhealthy diet combined with the inability to exercise due to the knee problems have caused him to balloon to 340 pounds.

“When there was nice weather O.J. used to walk around the track on the prison yard for an hour at a time but now the pain in his knee is so severe he can barely walk 10 steps without moaning in pain. O.J.'s weight is definitely a factor and putting more stress on his knees but he also has advanced arthritis,” the source said. The former NFL star’s knee problems are allegedly a direct result of his football career.
Simpson told inmates, according to the insider, that he is prepared to pay for the surgery he needs but staff will not allow him to leave the confines of the prison to get proper treatment.
“I won't be out of here for at least another two years and if they won't let me get to a specialist soon I may never walk again!” Simpson reportedly said as he slammed his fists on the table. “I have the money to pay for any surgery I need and the transportation so it won't be on the freakin' tax payers but they are still saying 'No.'”
Despite Simpson’s frustration with the prison’s policy, the source said rejection is common for those who have injuries or illnesses that are not life-threatening.
“Most of the time if a patient gets a recommendation from a doctor to have surgery but it is not life-threatening, the prison will deny that request. O.J. said they just gave him a pill and told him to take it easy. He has talked to his attorneys about going to court so he can get some outside medical help but by the time the courts decide he may be already on parole,” the source told the Daily Mail.
“O.J. is in bad shape and it's only going to get worse. The pain is excruciating and his knee is so deformed that he cant even straighten his left leg anymore. O.J. is so worried about being seen in a wheelchair that he said he is not going to tell anyone, not even his family, when he's leaving Lovelock. O.J. said when he gets parole he will leave in the middle of the night so he can disappear and there will not be any pictures of an old man a wheelchair on the cover of every newspaper across this country with the caption, 'The Juice — Old and Broken!'”

This fat fuck should send that money to his victims families in stead of bragging about being able to afford any specialist in the world. I hope he never gets out.

There are so many things wrong with this alleged statement, I don't even know where to begin...

-The fact that there are millions in the U.S. and in the world that give anything for that "mediocre" health care/treatment...
-The fact that (in my personal opinion) he doesn't even deserve/should be given access to "mediocre" health care, let alone "off-grounds" /special treatment...
-The fact that anything and everything else that he's complaining about has no traction or meaning what so ever and he should just be left alone to wallow in his cell with his "excruciating" knee pain until karma finishes him off, slowly and painfully.

I read in some random old issue of the National Enquirer floating around that he was slowly dying of brain cancer. It was the only time I had wished that the Enquirer had gotten a story right.
I have zero sympathy for that evil, sorry excuse for a human.

Prison healthcare is generally terrible and the fact is that everyone should have access to decent healthcare whether they are nice people or not. Health care (and decent health care) is a basic human right.

It's not uncommon to get treatment at a regular hospital if you're in jail- the jail facilities are generally not equipped to deal with serious conditions, long term illnesses, surgeries, etc.

One of my clients broke his arm and the bones were literally breaking through the skin. He was in jaili. He suffered that way for 6 weeks. And went to the prison nurse multiple times with NO treatment given. Not cool. I don't care what they did.

I definitely agree with you in terms of healthcare access, even those who are incarcerated.

And though I don't know how healthcare is handled specifically with those who are incarcerated, it's quite probable that treatment varies from prison to prison, state to state, just like it does from hospital to hospital and clinic to clinic "on the outside" - in my previous comment, I was just pointing out that there are people that are not incarcerated that are unable access any kind of treatment at all, let alone access to receiving "mediocre" or very basic treatment as said in that statement.
So just based on that particular statement, it comes off to me like he is looking for sympathy and/or special treatment because he's "OJ Simpson." To which, with O.J. and O.J only - I have none.

I'm sorry for your client. I do believe that, in a general sense, inmates should be treated humanely and their injuries or health shouldn't be totally disregarded or ignored just because they're incarcerated.

I actually recently watched a documentary about hospice/end of life care in a prison and I was actually quite surprised to see how well the inmates that the documentary followed were treated and felt compassion and grateful for those people in that particular prison (and so utterly grateful for every single healthcare worker everywhere and anywhere in the world - they are angels, truly).
Of course, I also recognize that, that's only one prison, and it was just a handful of people's lives showcased in that one documentary, and not all prison hospitals and hospice care units operate like the one shown in that doc.

Back to the topic of OJ, in my personal opinion, in O.J.'s case specifically, I do not see him as human.
I do not believe that he deserves special treatment just because he has money (if he does) or because he's well-known to the public and can have people put out stories in an attempt to get some attention or "the sympathy vote" - which it seems he's reaching for in this article/story.

Over here, we have a different health system, much better imho. Everyone should be able to get good or at least decent medical care, no matter what. That said, he is still an asshole.
