Legendary actor Michael Caine has retired in his head, but he can't stop accepting good scripts.

The 82-year-old double Oscar winner has appeared in an array of classic movies including Zulu, Alfie and The Dark Knight Rises during his illustrious career and he will next be seen in comedy-drama Youth, alongside fellow veterans Jane Fonda and Harvey Keitel. While he was ready for a break from making movies, he couldn't turn down the opportunity to work with both co-stars.

"Ive mentally retired, but I keep getting these scripts that I cant refuse, he told Variety at the film's Los Angeles premiere last week.

Now, I dont have a job. I dont have a script or anything and it would take something incredible to get me out of bed in the morning.

The film details the eternal struggle between youth and age and the themes of life and death. Harvey, 76, has also had a successful movie career spanning more than 40 years and for him, the movie highlights how older people can still keep themselves young with a curious mind.

    (I) dont have a lazy mind, he added. The mind doesnt grow old, the mind wants to know and seek more.

Jane agreed with her co-star's sentiment. The 77-year-old looks years younger than her age and she puts it down to having the right attitude.

By my 20s and 30s I was really old; Im so young now spiritually in my soul, she said. Ive managed to fight cynicism and stay open and curious so now I feel kind of like a novice.

The actress can give her male co-stars a run for their money in terms of success, having won two Academy Awards during her 50-year career, but she recently admitted that, like Michael, she is still shocked to be acting in her late-70s.

Im surprised Im still getting opportunities because, for women, once you reach 40 or 50, its very difficult to find work, she told Britain's Daily Mirror.

I still love Michael Caine. He's always the best part of his movies. And his interviews and books are hilarious.

He's a good actor. I've forgiven him for Jaws 4: The Revenge or whatever nonsense that was!

And he missed his Oscar acceptance because he was on location filming that stinker. But my love has no bounds.

He admitted without shame that he did it for the money, love him for just being upfront about it.
