Princess Charlotte, the fourth in line to the throne, was born on 2 May at St Mary's Hospital in London

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge's daughter Princess Charlotte will be christened on 5 July, Kensington Palace has announced.

The christening will take place at St Mary Magdalene Church at the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

The princess was born on 2 May at St Mary's Hospital in London, weighing 8lb 3oz (3.7kg).

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said he was "delighted" to have been invited to conduct the baptism.

"It will be an extraordinary honour and privilege to help welcome the princess into the family of the church," he added.

The fourth in line to the throne, the princess's full name has been registered as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.

On Monday, the Duke of Cambridge returned to work as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance after taking a break over the birth of his daughter.

The family has been at their home Anmer Hall on the Sandringham estate since leaving London shortly after the birth of the princess, their second child.

Also on the estate, Anmer Hall was recently refurbished by the duke and duchess

The couple presented their new born daughter shortly before leaving St Mary's Hospital

The duke and duchess are expected to be based at Anmer Hall for the next few years as they raise Princess Charlotte and their first born Prince George, who is almost two, with the help of a full-time nanny.

Prince George's christening took place in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace in London in October 2013.

The third in line to the throne wore a replica of the lace and satin christening gown made for Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Victoria, the Princess Royal, in 1841.

His christening was private, with only senior royals, four members of the Middleton family, the seven godparents and their spouses among the 22 guests.

The prince's godparents are the Princess Royal's daughter Zara Tindall, Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel, William van Cutsem. The royal couple have yet to announce Princess Charlotte's godparents.

Following the christening, official photos were released including a picture of the Queen with three future kings - the first such image of royal succession for nearly 120 years.

The prince was born at St Mary's Hospital on 22 July 2013.

Princess Charlotte's Christening Date Revealed – and It's at the Same Church Where Princess Diana Was Baptized

Princess Charlotte will be christened close to home – and in the same church where her late grandmother Princess Diana was baptized.

The service for the little royal will be held on July 5, at St. Mary Magdalene's Church on Queen Elizabeth II's Sandringham estate, Kensington Palace said in a statement to PEOPLE on Friday.

It is on the Queen's vast estate in Norfolk that Prince William and Princess Kate have their 10-bedroom home, Anmer Hall. William's mother Diana was born at Park House, which is also on the Sandringham estate.

Charlotte will follow in the footsteps of Princess Eugenie, 25, whose ceremony was also held there.

While St. Mary Magdalene Church was one of the places being mulled over for the service, what was never in doubt is that Charlotte, like brother Prince George and other royal children, will be dressed in a family heirloom. The one-month-old is expected to be christened in the traditional christening gown, which was designed by the Queen's assistant, Angela Kelly, and Buckingham Palace's team of dressmakers in 2008 and based on a christening gown commissioned by Queen Victoria in the 19th century.

The royals will also take the famous Lily Font with them for the service.

The palace confirmed the ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, who baptized Prince George in October 2013. It will be private, but it's expected portraits, like those taken of smiling George and his family, will be released to the public afterwards.

I feel so sorry for this kid. Everything she does, every change in her looks and event in her life and the papers are going to find some way to say "just like Diana!".

OMG! Princess Charlotte is female - just like Diana! /sigh

I don't hate Diana. I'm somewhere in the range between ambivalent on a good day and seething anti-monarchist when riled up, so if I paid any attention during her life it was usually to feel sorry for a rather dim teenager who probably thought she was living a fairytale and ended up miserable and did stupid things for love and attention. But I don't think she was a bad person.

The crazy bitches on Royal Gossip blog are in total meltdown. They HATE the Cambridge/Middletons to the point of derangement. The best they can come up with is that the pics "obviously" weren't taken by a professional. Well dur, we know Kate took them. Mind you, they also think both kids are either adopted via surrogate, plastic dolls or borrowed from someone.

George really reminds me of Wills at that age, he has the cutest smile. I just want to pick up and nuzzle Charlotte!
