Beloved R&B singer Ben E. King, best known for the song Stand By Me, has died. He was 76.
The Telegraph reports that the soul singer died of natural causes, according to his agent. The BBC cites King's publicist, Phil Brown, as saying King died on Thursday.
King rose to fame in the late 1950 with The Drifters, with songs including There Goes My Baby and Save The Last Dance For Me.
He found great success, however, after he went solo with Stand By Me, in 1961.
Fellow musician Gary US Bonds paid tribute to King on Facebook, calling him "one of the sweetest, gentlest and gifted souls that I have had the privilege of knowing and calling my friend for more than 50 years."

wow this is a tough one.

I loved him and The Drifters.

I'm always thankful I was introduced to Oldies music growing up as a kid via my grandmother and my mom.

One of the most beautiful voices ever, right up there with Sam Cooke for me. I'm sad today.

Does anybody sing like this anymore? New singers always seem to lack sincerity--to me, anyway.

    Another great old song:

Love Stand By Me, the song and the movie.

Aaawwww, R.I.P. another one gone from an era when music was music and not just a bunch of noise. Boy, do I sound ancient when I say that, but I mean it anyway, in reference to say 75% of today's "music".

Auto tune has ruined modern "singing". Can't sing? Hey, no problem!

Love the oldies and my 30 something kids do to.
