Default Kid Rock shares thoughts on guns, abortion and same-sex marriage

Kid Rock: ‘I played Barack Obama’s inauguration even though I didn’t vote for him. There was an exciting sense of change in the air.’Ed Cumming

As a child I was hell. I didn’t follow the rules. I never set out to hurt people, but if someone said “Fuck you” I’d smack them upside the head. I like to think I’ve grown out of that a little bit.

I don’t FaceTweet or whatever people do. I understand that I’m the old guy now. I turn on my computer and look at porn a little bit, see what’s going on in the news, but that’s about it. I’m comfortable with that.

Schoolbook-wise I’m not as educated as some politicians, but I am more connected to the people around me: Detroit, Alabama, Florida, Malibu.
I am definitely a Republican on fiscal issues and the military, but I lean to the middle on social issues. I am no fan of abortion, but it’s not up to a man to tell a woman what to do. As an ordained minister I don’t look forward to marrying gay people, but I’m not opposed to it.

I played Barack Obama’s inauguration even though I didn’t vote for him. I didn’t agree with his policies, but there was an exciting sense of change in the air. That promise hasn’t been fulfilled – the country is more divided than ever.

I’m not just wealthy, I’m loaded. I can say that because I’m not embarrassed – I’ve made a fuck-ton of money, but I’ve never made a dishonest dollar. I try to do right by the people around me.

I’m 43 and about to become a grandfather, but it keeps my redneck street cred up. I could be a great-great-great-grandfather by the time I’m 80. I am excited, but also nervous for my son. He was dropped on my doorstep at six months when I had no money and was trying to be a rock star. I didn’t have a clue.

The partying gene skips a generation. I was really wild and I never saw that in my son. He’ll have a few drinks, but that’s it. He’ll say: “Right, I’m going home,” and I’m like: “Ha! We’re just getting warm.”

My success with women picked up around the 14 millionth record I sold. I know what it was about – I don’t exactly look like Brad Pitt. I learned to be careful. I didn’t want 10 kids around. But there have been a lot of women. I could have set a better example for my son. When he was a teenager I’d bring home girls that he had more in common with than I did.

I don’t smoke much weed, it makes me dumb. But they should legalise and tax everything: pot, cocaine, heroin. Has it not been proven that people will always find a way to get what they want?

I’m always buying more guns. I have everything from a Civil War cannon to an MP5 machine gun and old police guns. If someone invades your house, yeah, you can shoot them. I don’t think crazy people should have guns.

Rap-rock was what people wanted at the time, and they still love those songs at shows. But it turned into a lot of bullshit and it turned out to be pretty gay… If someone says you can’t say “gay” like that you tell them to go fuck themselves. You’re not going to get anything politically correct out of me.

i don't totally dislike him (though his music sucks balls) and i appreciate his honesty and that he's trying to be an enlightened redneck but what does that even mean?
i guess it's good that he's trying not to be a homophobe and i appreciate his efforts not to sound like a sexist douche by saying he doesn't like abortion but understands it's not his place to control women's bodies, but at the same time i can't help but think: so, gay people and abortion make you uncomfortable but you have no problem with porn, guns, and partying and bringing girls home in front of your then small son?

I like him and his music, but I can't get on board with this, even though I hate the PC train.

Sorry, when you say something is gay and try to link it to something negative, I just can't.

    This +1

yeah, it's nice he's honest enough to go "yeah, I'm a little homophobic and sexist" but the comments about the guns made me roll my eyes so hard they almost came out of my sockets. If it's harder to get a gun you DECREASE the chance of "crazy people" getting a gun. What part of that is so hard to understand?

small kudos to the acknowledgement that regardless of what he thinks of abortion it's not his call to make.

The words that came to mind when reading Kid Rock's thoughts were.. "What a wanker!" .. (sorry msdeb, i know you like him).

He is a little 'guns n porn lovin' dude with an over inflated ego.

Redneck street cred.. pfffft give me a break.. haha.

And here's the thing... He says that he isn't Politically Correct.. (he won't stop saying something is 'Gay' ).. but this whole article sounds like is is trying to be Politically Correct though just enough to still keep his 'Redneck Street cred' intact.. (hope i make sense here?) .. so i don't think he is truly being honest.

He should of just shut-up.. haha.. (anyone reading this post of mine is probably wishing i had just shut-up too... haha

    Yeah you're right.

He's never made any secret of his views, he's played for the troops a shittonload and bought up failing businesses/set up businesses in his home town area, which is South of Detroit - and we all know what their economy is like.

And, like it or not, his views are shared by millions of Americans.

I thought I liked him until some shit came out of his mouth. Legalise heroin, huh? You stupid mother fucker. That just shows how out of touch with people you are. People are dying because of it. To make it legal, there would be more deaths. I know something is really up when an addict tells me they should never legalise pot, so you know the harder stuff would be worse. I would love to smack the shit outta him. Redneck asshole indeed.

I'm standing right there next to you on the boarding platform as that "gay" train pulls away. I'll walk to the beat of pejoratives like "gay" being the parlance of ignorant and close minded people, thank you very much.

Not to start an argument. But doctors hand out strong painkillers and muscle relaxers to patients like the are cotton candy nowadays.

One happens to be legal. While the other isn't.

I know someone on high dose patches for the kind of pain that comes from breaking nearly every bone following a bike accident a few years before. They manage to function, socialise and be a good hearted person.

I also see smack heads shuffling along and picking at their skin and sweating and shaking and stealing anything they can get their scabby hands on so they can pay for their next fix.

    I know who I prefer.

Pretty much what I expected him to think about everything. I'll give him that he's an open book. I hate his music but I give him props because if you like him and want to see him you won't pay out the nose for it or his merchandise.
