Diana's Death: Police Handed New Information
Scotland Yard says it is assessing new information on the death of Princess Diana to determine its "relevance and credibility".
    5:38pm UK, Sunday 18 August 2013

New information that alleges Princess Diana was murdered has been passed to Scotland Yard through military sources, it has emerged.

The information, thought to include the allegation that the Princess of Wales, Dodi al Fayed and their driver were killed by a member of the British military, will be assessed by officers from the Specialist Crime and Operations Command.

According to Sky sources it was given to the police by the former parents-in-law of a former soldier.

The deaths of Princess Diana and Mr al Fayed in Paris in 1997 were investigated and examined during a 90-day inquest led by Lord Justice Scott Baker at the Royal Court of Justice in 2007.

On April 7, 2008, the jury concluded their verdict as "unlawful killing, grossly negligent driving of the following vehicles and of the Mercedes".

The Metropolitan Police said its assessment was not a re-investigation and does not come under Operation Paget, the inquiry led by Lord Stevens into conspiracy theories surrounding Princess Diana and Mr al Fayed's deaths.

A royal spokeswoman said there will be no comment on the matter from Prince William or Prince Harry, or from Clarence House.

After the inquest, the Metropolitan Police said it had spent £8m on services arising from it and the Operation Paget investigation from 2004 to 2006.

Former Met Police commissioner Lord Stevens published his report in December 2006, rejecting claims that Princess Diana and Mr al Fayed had been murdered.

Sky's Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said: "We understand this information includes an allegation that Princess Diana and Dodi al Fayed and the driver of their car were killed by a member of the British military.

"The information we're told was passed to Scotland Yard quite recently. It also includes, we understand, references to something known as Diana's diary.

"These are very early days, the information has just come in, and Scotland Yard is adamant in saying that this is not a reopening of its investigation from 2004 when it spent three years looking into the circumstances of the Princess' death.

"But it is taking the information seriously and it is considering and it is possible that a new investigation may open."

Princess Diana, Mr al Fayed and their driver Henri Paul died after the Mercedes crashed in a Paris tunnel on August 31, 1997.

Diana was 36 at the time of her death and Mr al Fayed, the son of former Harrods owner Mohamed al Fayed, 42.

British police examining new information relating to deaths of Princess Diana, Dodi Al Fayed
Officers are assessing the information's 'relevance and credibility.' The force stressed that it was not reopening the investigation into the 1997 deaths of Diana and Fayed, who were killed in a car crash in Paris.

In a dramatic turn, Britain's Metropolitan Police announced Saturday that they have received new information regarding the 1997 deaths of the couple.

British detectives are looking into whether the deaths of Princess Diana and her close friend Dodi Al Fayed were a "criminal act," five years after an inquest ruled their killings were unlawful.

In a dramatic turn, Britain's Metropolitan Police announced Saturday that they have received new information regarding the 1997 deaths of the couple.

Princess Diana in 1997, the year she died.

While Scotland Yard refuses to give further information on the development, sources told Sky News that there is plausible information that the then-Princess of Wales and the Egyptian producer were killed by a member of the British military.

According to Sky News, the incredible allegation was reportedly passed onto detectives through the parents-in-law of a former soldier.

CCTV footage showing Diana, Princess of Wales with Dodi Fayed in the lift at the Ritz Hotel the afternoon before they both died. This footage was shown during a 2007 inquest.

The information was in turn given to the Metropolitan Police through the Royal Military Police, the British news organization reports.

Scotland Yard stressed that the force was not re-opening the case, which was closed in 2008 after a jury ruled that the People's Princess and Fayed were unlawfully killed due to their driver's reckless speed and drinking while on the run from paparazzi chasing them in Paris.

The wreckage of the Princess's car on the night she died at the scene of the car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.

The organization said in a statement: "The Metropolitan Police Service is scoping information that has recently been received in retaliation to the deaths and assessing its relevance and credibility. The assessment will be carried out by officers from the specialist crime and operations command."

Their chauffeur, Henri Paul, was also killed when the black Mercedes he was driving crashed in the Pont de l'alma Tunnel as they departed from the Ritz Hotel.

Princess Diana was killed Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997 in Paris, in a car crash that also killed her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, and the chauffeur.

Metropolitan Police have spent millions of pounds on the various investigations over the years.

Fayed's father, Mohammed al Fayed, was previously unaware of the shocking potential development, a spokesman for the former Harrods' owner told the Telegraph. He has maintained that the couple was murdered.

Interest in the late princess has piqued in recent months due in part to the biopic "Diana," that is due out in September. Naomi Watts plays the shyly smiling princess in the film.

This investigation seems pretty convenient now that a new movie about Diana is coming out.

Yes. Why wouldn't the parent-in-law of a former soldier have mentioned this during the investigation? Her death happened right around my wedding; we woke on the wedding day watching news reports of her funeral.

I just realized that if Diana was young today, she probably would have gotten a nose job. Other than that, this confuses me.

Conspriacy theories abound. Fun/interesting to think about but it's a bit too convenient. I keep hearing that if Diana were wearing a seatbelt seh would have survived...so then someone would have walked up to the car and what? Or there would have been more attempts on her life?

    Let it be.

I just cannot imagine that the Queen actually authorized a 'hit' on her.

First Madeline McCann and now this? Methinks Scotland Yard has too much time on their hands.

Tin foil hats everyone! It wasn't really the Queen! It was Helen Mirren anticipating her future role as the Queen and she offed Diana to meaty up the role! Bitch is fierce with a sniper rifle!

The Queen is busy reading my emails. Just like Obama. You won't hear from either of them for a while, mark my words.
