Default Helen Mirren grants sick child's wish to meet royalty

For some more nice celeb news. The boy also has Down's, so he fell for it.

Helen Mirren dresses like Queen Elizabeth, grants sick child's wish to meet royality | Fox News

Helen Mirren has granted a boy’s dying wish to meet the Queen — by dressing as Her Majesty and inviting him round for tea.

Oliver Burton, ten, may have just weeks to live after being hit by cancer for a third time.
Visiting the Queen at Buckingham Palace topped his list of dream activities — but his family was told a meeting would not be possible.

So Helen stepped in, bringing him in a limo to see her West End show "The Audience" — in which she plays the Queen — then taking him backstage to meet her corgis.
The actress, 67, even "knighted" the excited schoolboy “Sir Oliver” during his visit, telling The Sun: “It was a pleasure and a privilege to meet such a brave young man.”
Oliver, from Leicester, was first diagnosed with leukaemia in 2006, aged three.

He recovered but in 2010 the cancer returned — and once again he pulled through.

Then last Christmas he was diagnosed with cancer in his spine and bone marrow — and this time intensive treatment is not possible, so he returned home with his mum, dad, and brother Ethan, six.

That poor boy really drew the short straw in life. Glad he got to meet the "Queen" and her corgis. He deserves this and so much more.

The boy has Down's Syndrome so he fell for it?

What kind of thing is that to say? Thoughtless is what it is.

Ouch. I didn't get the impression from the article that she was trying to dupe anyone, just that she was trying to give him the next best thing.

Well, no, I'm not sure why. I thought the whole story was very sweet actually.

Nope, all me in a hurry. Look, I was touched that Mirren could meet this kid, on his own terms, and give him this magical experience. Yes, that amounts to him "falling for it" which most 10-year-olds wouldn't. Sorry if I stated it badly and was too terse. You really think I wanted to insult this kid? Not at all. Because of his special needs, it was a richer experience for him. Mirren played right into it, which I find very touching.

That's a great picture. The funny thing is Mirren makes a really pretty version of Queen Liz. In fact, too pretty...so yes I don't think a lot of (British, especially) 10 year olds would have believed it was really the Queen. I'm so glad this little boy was able to believe and that it made him so happy. He's just glowing in the pic.

Pity the real Queen wasn't able to be as helpful. I wonder if her health really is failing? I keep seeing bits about that here and there and hoping it's not true....

Kathie - The real Queen couldn't possibly meet with every sick kid that wants to meet her, and it wouldn't be fair just to choose a few. So I can see why she doesn't do it. I doubt she was even aware of this request though tbh.

    Love this story.

As much as it's easy to go "well the real Queen should've met him!" as someone else pointed out, she probably does get bombarded with requests. But seriously... I would've thought dying kid could at least get a visit from some royal at Her Maj's direction.... anyway. Tea with Helen Mirren playing the Queen was probably far more enjoyable!
