Default Ivanka Trump works 16 hour days: I think it makes me a better mom when Im home

Ivanka Trump is on the cover of Redbook’s May issue, and Radar Online has some details of her interview. Ivanka talks about her two year-old daughter, Arabella, and how she tries to balance home and work
life. It sounds like she totally prefers to be in the office most of the time instead of at home. Some people are criticizing her for acting like she’s a working mom when she comes from such immense privilege and wealth. If you read her statements carefully, that’s not really what she says. The interviewer brought that up, she admits how hard it is to stay at home with her kid. Ivanka prefers to be at work, and she does that, coming home for just an hour and fifteen minutes on weeknights to give her daughter a bath and put her to bed. Here’s more:

On whether, as a working mother, she suffers from mom guilt

“Oh, every morning I’m so sad to leave Arabella. But it’s important for me to continue what I’m doing. It’s fulfilling to me, and I think it makes me a better mom when I’m home. And incidentally, I hate the expression ‘working mom,’ because when I’m with Arabella on the weekends, I’m much more exhausted on Mondaymorning than I am on Friday night! [Laughs] I think the expression ‘working’ versus ‘non-working’ implies that a mother who stays home doesn’t work. It’s far more difficult than anything I do in the office.”
On why, unlike her father, she’s guarded with the press
“Many people who come from obscurity and shoot into the limelight, they don’t really know what they’re getting into, whereas I did. I went in with my eyes wide open. I don’t let people into things that are too private. People ask all the time, ‘Oh, can we take photographs of you and your closet?’ No. That feels voyeuristic in a way that I don’t feel comfortable with. I’m very active on social media, but you don’t see me tweet a photo of Jared and me lying in bed on Sunday morning. I don’t want to see other people lying in bed on a Sunday morning; why would someone want to see me?
She works 16 hour days and keeps “normalcy” by coming home for an hour and fifteen minutes at night
Trump keeps a sense of normalcy in her family by engaging in family traditions, such as making a “proper eggs breakfast” on Tuesday mornings for her husband, Jared Kushner, and Arabella, having Arabella join her for lunch ever Wednesday at noon, and running home for work every evening from 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. to give her daughter a bath, read her books and put her to bed, before returning to the office and finishing her work day.

You cannot work 16 hour days and come home for an hour and 15 minutes and call it normal. It's not.

It's also really bad math. Unless she's living on some planet with a slower rotational velocity.

I hate it when people of priviledge try to make it look as if they live life like the rest of us and appear "normal".

meh, it's probably normal for her. it's unlikely that ivana spent more time with ivanka when she was little.

is anyone really surprised by this??

What is she doing for 16 hours, I'd like to know. What exactly is her job? Unless it's staying connected through lunches and meetings, I don't get the point of Ivanka (though her father does throw crumbs at her once in a while.)

Ivana famously showed up to work again within 3 days of giving birth to her youngest (Carl?). The employees at the casino weren't pleased, since Ivana didn't do much except walk around screaming at people (God I LOVED that Spy magazine article.)

So barely seeing her kid every day makes her a better mother? What bullshit.

^^^ it probably does make her a better mother than how she would be if she were with her kid all the time. doubt that she would be patient when her kid runs away from her at the park or throws her sippy cup on the floor 32 times . ...

Lol true. It's a shame she had to have a child in the first place if she's not up to looking after it.

Spy Magazine was the best! By the way, have you ever heard of "seagull management style"? You fly in screeching, poop all over everything, and then fly off screeching.

So... she's not actually parenting? She's just occasionally visiting her kid in between days at work?I don't criticize working moms- I am one, and I have a job in which I worked 16 hour days before having kids. There is nothing wrong with being a working mom and moms should not feel guilty because they like working. I like working, myself. But there IS something wrong with intentionally seeing your child for an hour and some change every day when you have the means to spend more time with them. No one is saying she should be a stay at home mom or anything but if she had a kid she does have an obligation to parent that kid. And an hour and a half a day is likely not cutting it. Plus, she is nothing like the average working mother and I am very tired of rich celebrities pretending that they live the lives of regular people.

Hmmm, I am not sure on this. If she were a man would the amount of time she spends with her daughter be considered ok? I know she doesn't need to work for a living, but maybe she isn't the type to stay home. I am sure her daughter gets a lot of love and perhaps as she gets older things will change as far as their schedule. I like to give her the benefit of a doubt because I don't dislike her.
