The distancing language somewhat alarmed me. It's not a normal variation on grief or shock imo.

There is no normal variation on grief and shock. The distancing language could be because she's just lost her daughter and, as Dexknows says, she's not really processing it yet.

However I can see how people might cast a side-eye at the death of this young woman following the kreepy kray-kray of Brittany Murphy's mother.
