'They're calling him RIP-Patz!' Robert Pattinson's Hollywood career is in jeopardy as post-Twilight films both flop at box office

Robert Pattinson is seeking to break out of the phenomenally successful film franchise Twilight and graduate from a boy vampire into a leading man.
Yet at the Beekman Theatre on Manhattan's Upper East Side, R-Patz's plan looked to be in jeopardy.

Aside from Mail Online, the auditorium was completely empty for a screening of Bel Ami, the film in which the 26-year-old stars as a manipulative journalist who sleeps his way up the social ladder.

End of the road? Hollywood chiefs are saying Robert Pattinson's career is potentially in jeopardy after his post-Twilight films Bel Ami and Cosmopolis have failed to make a financial impact at the worldwide box office

Not one punter had paid to see the movie, set against the backdrop of 19th century Paris, with cinema staff confirming this was not an uncommon occurrence for the film.

Despite boasting a fine cast (Pattinson romances Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci) and literary pedigree (the film was adapted from Guy de Maupassant's classic 1885 novel), Bel Ami has been an embarrassing flop in the US.'In the UK, Bel Ami underperformed but in America, it's been a commercial catastrophe,' a Hollywood source revealed exclusively to Mail Online.

Down to earth: Kristen and R-Patz opted for casual gear as they attended a gig at El Rey Theatre last night

'Magnolia Pictures simultaneously released it on Video on Demand but they were hopeful that the film would take off in big cities and get a nationwide cinema release.

'Yet it has made just over $72,000 which is staggeringly low, little more than one screen's average for the Twilight movies.'
In London, things don't appear to be much better.

Cosmopolis, in which Pattinson stars as a billionaire who loses his wealth, failed to make the Top 10, making just a measly 117,000.

So far, the film - which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and is directed by acclaimed filmmaker David Cronenberg - is proving to be another epic flop for Pattinson.

No glamour girl: Kristen opted for a T-shirt, grey hoodie, black hot pants and trainers
Daily Mail Film Critic Chris Tookey wrote of Cosmopolis: 'Devoid of meaning, dialogue that rings true or plausible drama, this film is the antithesis of entertainment.'
The US source added: 'Hollywood is taking notice that outside the Twilight movies, Pattinson has the bankability of Greece.

'Breaking Dawn: Part 2 will be huge when it is released in November but outside Twilight, it's just not happening for Robert. Pattinson is finding out that LA can be a cruel town.

'Increasingly Rob is being referred to as RIP-Patz instead of his nickname R-Patz.'
Apparently he is unfazed by the hiccup as he currently soaks up the party lifestyle in LA with girlfriend Kristen Stewart, claiming they were edgy films that were never going to attract large audiences.
The insider continued: 'But his agents at William Morris Endeavor are not so carefree about the situation. Rob has not been terrible in the films but apart from Twilight, he keeps misjudging material.

Little time to spare: Kristen and Robert are dividing themselves between Twilight filming and other projects

'Bel Ami didn't suit him, Cosmopolis doesn't appeal to anyone who is not interested in sprawling examinations of time and nobody remembers Remember Me.'
The source added that Pattinson's career post-Twilight, which exploded him into the limelight in 2008, does not inspire confidence in Tinseltown.
'Rob wants to make a small Australian crime movie called The Rover and team up with Cronenberg again to make a drama about the dirty side of Hollywood entitled Map To The Stars.
'But both these projects have been thrown into jeopardy as a result of his underwhelming time at the box office.
Can you hear wedding bells? Both Robert and Kristen deny rumours that they are engaged
'Robert needs to emulate Andrew Garfield and Daniel Radcliffe [who Pattinson starred with in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire] who are examples of young British actors that crossed over to become leading men or risk being out of the game by the time he's 30.'
In contrast Kristen, 22, was recently named top of Forbes' annual list of highest paid actresses and new film Snow White and the Huntsman has made over $250,000,000 worldwide.

The source added: 'If only Kristen could sprinkle some of her non-Twilight spray over her boyfriend.'
Meanwhile, the pair were spotted attending a gig at El Rey Theatre in West Hollywood last night.

Never pauses for breath: Robert has been promoting his latest film Cosmopolis

Kept a low profile: Robert doesn't court attention in the way many young actors do
Kristen wore hot pants with a T-shirt and grey hoodie, choosing trainers over less practical heels.
Robert was also casual in a red and black checked shirt, white T-shirt, black jeans and baseball cap.
The pair had attended a show from the Canadian indie band Metric.
Downtime is precious for both, as they are still dividing themselves between LA and Canada to complete The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.

Kristen is also in pre-production on Cali, a quirky road film directed by acclaimed Nick Cassavetes

He looks aged in these photos, but then he is frowning and being uncooperative. He wont look good in a few years. But she will.

I doubt he can come back from Twilight the way Leo came back from Titanic. Leo's name was mud for almost 10 years after that project because of his fangirls. If he didn't have the acting chops, he would have never rebounded. I doubt Pattison can pull it off.

I thought he was cute when he was in the Harry Potter movie. Now not so much.

I agree with you. I don't think Pattison is a terrible actor, although I thought so after Twillight. I have caught some of his other movies on tv- Remember Me and Water for Elephants. The movies weren't great, but his acting was decent to my surprised. Kristen Stewart has a better chance of breaking out of Twilight.

Maybe he should go for a mainstream movie and not something artsy or independent. To me, it seems like he's trying so hard to be "real" outside of Twilight, that he just does movies that try too hard to be deep but don't appeal to the masses.

Yeah, he doesn't suck completely, but I think it would take a miracle to scrub the Edward off.

Other than his part in the Twilight franchise, the only other legendary thing about him is his notorious BO. He brags about it.

For me, it took Blood Diamond. Leo was buff. Made me turn my head and say "whoa." Patz needs to get buff and make a manly movie.
