Eddie Murphy to Host Oscars
Eddie Murphy is set to step back into the spotlight in a big way: He's agreed to take on hosting duties at the Oscars next February.
The selection of Murphy, 50, is a departure from last year's Academy Awards hosts – the unlikely duo of James Franco and Anne Hathaway.
"Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever," telecast producer Brett Ratner says. "I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show."

I can't remember the last time I found Eddie remotely funny, but nobody asked for my vote.

Hmm, that might be good. Eddie Murphy Raw is like the funniest (and raunchiest) shit ever. Unless he's mellowed out over time, they'll probably have to put the show on a time delay to edit out the language.
I loved Raw and whatever the other stand up was.....and his shit on SNL. But hey, good for him---I may watch, I might not. Depends on what else I am doing that night I guess.
Yeah, I'm not too sure about this. Back in the day, his stand-up was awesomely funny but nowadays, nothing.
I hope he brings it though.
I really hope he does well. The Oscars have been so lame recently.
he may be a good choice. They need someone who will be able to think on their feet and be spontaneous. All the things that Eddie Murphy used to be back in the day...........
I think he lost his sense of humor when he picked up that transvestite prostitue.
touchéWill he show up in a fat suit?
Wow, they must've gotten him for little or no $$. That being said, I think he's funny as hell and has to be better than James Franco and old horse face from last year.
Love Eddie Murphy! Just watched "Trading Places" with him and Dan Aykroyd a few nights ago. Love that movie!
Eddie is definitely a funny guy, hopefully this year's Oscars will not be a disaster.
The brain doesn't need blood. It just needs to be kept wet.
