Julia Roberts reportedly converts to Hinduism after filming 'Eat, Pray, Love

August 7, 2010 -- News comes today that when Julia Roberts was shooting the film 'Eat, Pray, Love' she reportedly made a big decision: To convert to Hinduism.

The 'Pretty Woman' actress is the daughter of a Baptist and a Catholic, says Jam Movies, who claims that while filming in India Roberts took a spiritual pilgrimage much like that of 'Eat Pray Love' author Elizabeth Gilbert.

Out of that experience, the movie star learned about yoga, meditation and reincarnation -- something in which Julia Roberts is said to now hold as her own belief.

    Roberts told Elle magazine:

    'I'm definitely a practicing Hindu.'

Off the set, Julia and her family chant and celebrate life -- a peaceful existence for the new believer in Hinduism who stars in 'Eat, Pray, Love'. The new movie based on Elizabeth Gilbert's memoirs debuts in theaters next week.

Taking an interest is a start and you never know where it will lead. I never imagined actually becoming a Buddhist when Buddhism came to me two years ago, but here I am getting ready for Ango and my first Jukai ceremony. When it feels right, go with it.

Wait...I thought one couldn't convert to Hinduism. Someone is either born Hindu or isn't.

That is correct. A non-Hindu can practice so that they might be born a Hindu in the next life, but a non-Hindu can never become a Hindu (which is why this story is ridiculous.)

You are awesome. Maybe some day I'll become a real Buddhist too.
Right now I don't have a religion but I like to read about them. Hinduism and Buddhism are two of my favorites to read about. I also really love reading about the Lakota religion. I meditate every day, but I haven't joined any groups or anything.

I personally think it's nice Julia Roberts is learning about religions. As long as she isn't douching out about it and she isn't being a pretentious half wit, then I think it's good for her.
