Howard Stern: 'Gabourey Sidibe is enormous, will never work again'
Howard Stern: Gabourey Sidibe Is 'Enormous,' Will Never Work Again
Posted: 03- 9-10 06:08 PM
Howard Stern unleashed a vicious attack on Gabourey Sidibe on his Sirius satellite show on Monday.
"There's the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen. She is enormous. Everyone's pretending she's a part of show business and she's never going to be in another movie," he said. "She should have gotten the Best Actress award because she's never going to have another shot. What movie is she gonna be in?"
He and co-host Robin Quivers went on to discuss the impossibility of Gabby finding any work in Hollywood after 'Precious.'
"And Oprah's lying and saying you're going to have a brilliant career," said Robin.
"Oprah's another liar, a filthy liar," said Stern. "She's telling an enormous woman the size of a planet that she's going to have a career."
It looks like Gabby will prove Stern wrong. She is lined up to appear on the new Showtime series 'The C Word' and her next big-screen appearance will be opposite Zoe Kravitz in the drama 'Yelling to the Sky.'

The language Howard used was too harsh, but I agree with his basic point. Gabourey is going to have a tough time making a career for herself in Hollywood. She's not just fat - she's a morbidly obese actress working in a town where studio execs consider any actress above a Size 4 to be too heavy.
Anyway, here's the audio. YouTube - Howard Stern vs. Gabourey Sidibe

Howard made some good points, but he should've worded it better. Gabby may not have an A-list career, but she'll still have some level of a career, even if it's just doing plays or bit parts.

agree.
i hope it's not true though. even if she ends up always playing the fat girl in supporting roles, i hope she keeps working.

Stern is an idiot. He has to talk big. His mouth is the only big thing he has. Gabourey is going to have some challenges. It's not right, but it's reality. She has talent. To say she's never going to have another shot is ridiculous. Of course she will. Not only for her appearance but for her health she needs to lose some of the weight. But Stern would have said this about any overweight female or one that didn't meet his boobityboob bimbo standard.

I agree. He's right, but his wording could have been better.

Stern is being such an asshole about this. Yeah, she's fat, so what? She's a good actress and a lovely person, and I hope she gets lots of work. I'd love to see her as some sassy friend on a TV show or something, and I bet she'd have a blast.
As a fellow fat chick, I'm so glad I don't want to be famous or even well-known at all. I can't imagine what kind of crap I'd get because I'm fat and white, which doesn't even carry any kind of sassy stereotype

BigBen, I love seeing that signature in action now.
I was listening when that was said and caught it. But it didn't sound as bad then as reading it now looks. And more than that was said by them about this girl and the movie (which he loved, and thought she deserved her nomination) but that's how it usually goes with any press on Howard. Always and only the outrageously offensive shit he says, 90% of the time taken out of context or incomplete snippets (instead of an whole convo on the subject or person), always making him sound way worse than he is.
And I agree, even though it was said harshly. She does stand a better chance than your average morbidly obese black woman in Hollywood if nothing else than due to having been nominated for an Oscar already. But let's face it, Hollywood is not exactly brimming over with women who look like her. That's just a fact. If in 30 years she's another Meryl, I'm sure Howard himself would be the first one to congratulate her.

Yea he's a f**king ass for saying such a hurtful thing.
That said, as some have pointed out, unfortunately what he said is true. Everyone and their uncles know that to be a big star in hollywood, if you are a female, you simply have to look good in a bikini first, then develop "talent" later in meaty acting roles. Casting agents don't look for "talent" in drama classes, they scour the pages of FHM, Maxim, or the latest sexpot.
Again, looks FIRST, "talent" later. It's sad but that's the truth, and those less attractive are relegated to stereotype roles or even less.
