Fabio Capello, the England manager, told Terry he no longer regarded him as the right person to lead the national football team during a brief meeting at Wembley Stadium this afternoon.
"After much thought I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry," Capello said in a statement.
“As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad. What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice." Terry said: "I fully respect Fabio Capello's decision. I will continue to give everything for England."
Rio Ferdinand is to replace him as captain with immediate effect, The Football Association said.
Capello, who has a reputation as a strict disciplinarian, decided Terry's fling with Vanessa Perroncel, the former girlfriend of England defender Wayne Bridge, was likely to have a negative effect on team unity as England prepare for this year's World Cup.
Earlier reports had suggested that Manchester City left back Bridge had told friends he would pull out of the England squad if Terry, 29, remained captain. Terry will continue playing for England.
There was some good news for Terry and England however, as Miss Perroncel announced she has decided to turn down offers of up to £250,000 to sell her story to a tabloid newspaper.
The FA, and Terry's club Chelsea, had feared that further damaging disclosures were going to be printed this weekend after Miss Perroncel hired the publicist Max Clifford and invited bids for her story.
Terry's sacking followed a meeting with Capello which lasted just 12 minutes.
Terry's private life hit the headlines last week after a High Court judge revoked an injunction which had banned the media from revealing details of Terry's affair with Miss Perroncel.
The Chelsea captain, who is married with three-year-old twins, is reported to have begun an affair with lingerie model Miss Perroncel last September after Miss Perroncel's relationship with Bridge had broken down.
Terry's wife Toni, 28, is currently in Dubai with the couple's children, where Terry is expected to join her this weekend in a bid to save their marriage.
Miss Perroncel, 33, released a statement via Mr Clifford in which she said: "In recent days I have been the centre of a great deal of press speculation and comment. The details of my friendship with John and his family have been the subject of intense and wholly unfair and untrue media speculation.
"As Max has already said, much of the material in the press is inaccurate. I now find myself subject to other unsubstantiated and false claims which have appeared in the papers over the past few days.
"This has only added to the pressure which my family and I have been under. I have decided I do not want to speak publicly about the speculation since it only seems to add more fuel to the fire.
"I have a three-year-old son and he is my main concern. I do not believe speaking to newspapers or the media is in his interest or my own. I do not wish to add anything more to what I have said."

eat a hot bowl of dicks.
A professional athlete cheated on his wife???? The hell you say!!
he is becoming the UK's answer to Tiger Woods as more girls are coming out of the closet but only difference is JT was always known to be a cheater and not exactly the family man.
Oh, please. They could send the whole team packing, if faithfulness was a criteria.
Vodka and buttfucking for all!

Hello mother fucker! when you ask a question read also the answer instead of asking another question on an answer who already contain the answer of your next question!

Apparently Tiger Woods is his favorite athlete. The guy comes from an interesting family: East End, now living in a McMansion enclave in Surrey. Mum arrested for shoplifting, dad for dealing coke in a pub. Last time he was caught cheating it was on the day he released a statement saying he would never cheat again and his then fiance (now wife) was the only woman for him. He's a real charmer, this guy. Plus, does anyone else think he looks more like 49 than 29?

Who was the team mates wife? I've only heard about the ex-GF

I wouldn't be surprised if it kept creaking along. Aside from the financial benefits of staying married the WAGS seem to be a closed circle and (by many accounts) a bunch of backstabbing bitches, so if she ditched his cheating arse she'd end up frozen out for #1 breaking ranks and #2 being a potential threat to their partners.
Yeah, the rock radio station that I listen to have been running soundbites saying "Hey Tiger! You can come out now, John Terry's taking the heat for you!". He's the butt of a lot of jokes right now.
Of course it will last. It's not like these relationships are based on love anyway. A WAG would consider it crazy to walk away from a life of leisure and luxury. Posh stood by Beckham, so have many others.
Personally, I can't imagine turning the other cheek. What a sad life to constantly wonder where your hubby/boyfriend really is when he leaves for practice or is on the road. The constant worry if you're still tiny enough, pretty enough to compete with all the other woman after your man. A terribly superficial life that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Give me a regular guy anyday!
Elisa I agree with you bout wags not leaving the life of luxury. its sad that those women have no self respect to walk away in case of Ms Beckham as far as we know there was only Rebecca loos so i can understand sticking around for the sake of your children but Terry has constantly cheated on toni and she still sticks around
apparently there is going to be a big story in news of the world tomorro about Ashley cole and the Vanessa.. and if its true i dont see Cheryl sticking around this time
AC is as bent as a watering can, most people who work in the media do not even bother writing about the couple anymore as it is seen widely as a contractual media stunt.
And if you want to split hairs about Wayne Bridge, whatevz, nobody knows for sure when his relationship ended with VP - and relationships are as good as marriages with footballers, players usually have a kid before getting married, the fact Terry made her pregnant makes it even more awful.
The stories are only getting out now because Terry's publicist left him, he was also Bridge's publicist! Terrys mum is a shoplifter, his dad a drug dealer, he taunts his priveledges for money... he had to go, and I've met the man, hes a real knob.
Ohh yeah, he's one ugly dude. It's annoying me that this story is taking over our national news, a man murdered his wife and daughter on the same day this broke, but the John Terry shite was the main headline. What a doucher, I hope all his other women come crawling out of the woodwork.
I smile because I have no idea what's going on
