Count Italian-American Alyssa Milano among the non-fans of MTV's new reality show Jersey Shore.
The show -- which follows the booze-fueled nights of six self-described "guidos" and "guidettes" on the Jersey Shore -- has outraged Italian-Americans, who claim it exploits a stereotype and gives the vacation destination a bad rap.
UNICO National, the nation's largest Italian American service organization, has even asked MTV to cancel the show.

    Milano, 36, can see why.
"My husband actually showed me the trailer on YouTube last night, and I got upset," she told Usmagazine.com Thursday at the UNICEF ball in Beverly Hills. "It upset me. I was like, 'Turn that off!' So no, I don't think I'll be watching that!'"

But 21-year-old Jersey Shore star Nicole -- a.k.a. "Snookie" -- doesn't see what the big deal is.
"The Italian, whatever, national, whatever their organization is, they don’t understand that 'guidos' and 'guidettes' are good-looking people that, you know, like to make a scene and be center of attention and just take care of themselves," she said on The Wendy Williams Show Friday (check your local listings). "They are old-fashioned. They don't know that; they think it's offensive, because maybe in their time it was offensive, but now it's kind of a compliment. So they don't understand that and that is what we are trying to say. They are way overreacting to the show. We're 22 to 29 just having fun at the shore. They are just taking it way out of proportion."

I haven't seen it and won't see it, being Italian they are a real embarassment to me. I'm sure they come across as total jackasses.

MTV puts out trashy shows. Hardly surprising.

I've never seen this show, but I did see something on Entertainment Tonight the other night about that Snookie person getting the shit punched out of her by a man in a club. I saw the punch and it was pretty vicious.

This is amazing to me, this level of ignorance and lack of self-awareness. It's off the charts. They truly don't understand or even realize their own douchebagitude.

Yeah, the dude was supposedly wasted and sucker punched her over a drink.

Here's a link of an article with the clip included. Just a warning, though. There's violence as well.

Are these even real people, seriously? I've never been able to believe MTV shows are anything other then actors. they're too cartoonish.

What all these "offended" people don't seem to realize is that these people aren't playing characters - these really are the people that frequent Seaside (or, as it's more commonly known, Sleazeside). That's why the rest of the state tends to avoid it, unless you look like these people or are under the age of 17.

I don't understand this shit. Wouldn't anyone else get arrested or investigated for this? That was a straight up full on sucker punch. WTF? Just because it's a show people are supposed to find this humorous or it's not as big a deal?

    WTF

From what I pieced together on Entertainment Tonight, I think the guy that punched her was arrested. I saw a clip after the punch that looked like he was being hauled away in handcuffs and escorted to the back of a police car.
