Mickey Rourke helps model girlfriend buy puppy from pet store

News that actor Mickey Rourke helped his gorgeous blonde model girlfriend, Elena Kuletskaya, buy a 5-month old Pomeranian puppy from a Manhattan pet store may surprise some -- including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). In January of this year, just days after Rourke famously thanked his dogs during his Golden Globes acceptance speech, the actor filmed an exclusive interview with PETA blasting pet stores and encouraging people to spay and neuter their pets.

I've gone to pet stores in the past and bought dogs and when I became a little more aware how many dogs are abandoned or put to sleep each week -- it's staggering. If the public was more aware of fixing their animals and not going to the puppy store -- which I've been guilty of -- they wouldn't be putting so many dogs to death each week.

It's baffling, then, that Rourke would help his girlfriend buy a puppy from a pet store, especially when he once protested outside a Florida pet store in 2007. Parrots & Pups -- the name of the store where the puppy was purchased, according to PEOPLEPets.com, is located in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan. It's the kind of shop that displays adorable puppies playing and sleeping in the shop's front windows. The prices of the puppies average about $2,000. Sometimes, they have sales offering $200 to $500 off a puppy's price tag.

Normally I would be defending their right to purchase a dog, so long as it was done legally, but this is pretty rich considering his quotes from January. What a hypocrite.

BTW I couldn't imagine kissing him. Eeeeewwwwww.

I'm almost 22, and I've been seeing this guy at work who is 52. The age difference definitely doesn't matter! I however would never buy a dog or cat from a pet store. I would go to the shelter any day over that.

Report back in 6 months, I want to know how things are going. The age difference, the fact that you are 21 and the co-worker situation have me worried for you, be smart girl!

And yeah, this seems hypocritical of Mickey, but he probably just wants to get laid and keep the young thing around.... so who are we to judge!

Offtopic but how can anyone sleep with him? He used to be the hotness back in the day but that face... ugh!
And I could never date someone who is as old as my dad. Hell to the no.

Peta should spend more time on choosing their spokespeople. But that's the least of their problems.
