Nas files legal bid to stop Kelis from receiving spousal support

Rapper Nas has filed a bid to prevent his estranged wife Kelis from receiving spousal support payments. Read more on NAS and Kelis’ divorce below.

Rapper Nas and Kelis have been involved in a nasty divorce battle since April 2009, just months before their son Knight was born.

Nas was ordered in July to pay $55,000 per-week in spousal and child support by a New York judge, but now the rapper is trying to drop the payments so that he is only paying for his newborn son.

The rapper filed papers on Monday asking to block the spousal support payments he has to pay to Kelis. And Nas is asking for joint custody of his young son.

She was saying all that mess before about how she should still be able to live the life shes used to living with him, I disagree. You two are through, let him pay for his child and call it quits. She apparently wants to have her cake, not being with him, and eat it too, all his money. Why does she even need money? The child is a given, but spousal support? Shes been dropping CDs for years, I know theyre not off the charts and it doesnt seem that any took off at all but even so, Im sure she has her own money.

Yeah, that makes sense. It has to be a typo, because that much money per week is crazy.

Yeah, that can't be right???? NO way Nas makes THAT much money! And I don't get the whole spousal support thing, anyway. It was traditionally meant to help women out (usually temporarily) who gave up (or never pursued) their career in order to raise the couple's kids. It's not meant to be a windfall. The kid should have a quality of life that he would have had if the parents had stayed together, but why an ex-spouse is entitled to anything beyond that is a mystery to me.

Kelis claims Nas raked in $11 million for his album deal. Nas fired back in legal papers, “I did not receive even half that amount”… claiming it’s more like $4 mil. Nas claims his income is declining, and he’s only pulling in $147,165 a month. As for what he spends … $71,371.96 a month, which includes $10,000 a month in clothing/hair/toiletries/personal effects.

Kelis, who is about to give birth to their child, claims Nas hasn’t paid a penny for child or spousal support since he left her. Nas, who says he wants to be “fully involved” in the parenting of their child, claims he’s agreed to pay $350 for a stroller, $450 for a baby sling and $1,598 for two cribs.

maybe she can take the baby to a daycare - shit, hire a nanny. When a man has a child with a woman, it's not a contract that he supports her ass for life.

Ha... my BOB stroller was more than $350 and I have never seen a baby sling that costs $450. These dollar amounts are strange.
