When a billionaire throws a party for a millionaire, the lucky guests might rightly be expecting a night with plenty of X Factor.

And those who turn out for Simon Cowell’s 50th birthday bash will surely not be disappointed.

What the tongue-in-cheek invitation for Simon Cowell's blowout birthday party might look like

The multi-millionaire music mogul will celebrate his birthday at a huge party organised by his best friend Sir Philip Green - with the billionaire retail tycoon said to be planning a no-expense-spared occasion ‘fit for a king’ at a Palladian mansion.

Last night, sources close to Sir Philip, who is understood to be worth about £4.9billion, said he had overseen all the details of the spectacular party, which is expected to cost more than £500,000.

Originally, he offered to take Cowell and a group of friends to Las Vegas for a weekend of drinking and gambling but the X Factor star, who has a fortune of about £120million, said he wanted a party at home for his family and close friends in the industry.

Sir Philip has spent several weeks organising the black-tie dinner which will be held at Wrotham Park, a stately home in Hertfordshire, on Saturday, October 3.

His wife Tina has sent invitations to 400 guests who include Sir Elton John and David Furnish, Hollywood star Kevin Spacey, pop diva Kylie Minogue and supermodel Kate Moss, who models and designs for Sir Philip’s Topshop stores.

All of Simon Cowell's co-judges on X-Factor are apparently invited

Cowell’s fellow X Factor judges Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole are all invited, as are his colleagues on Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent, including former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff, actress Amanda Holden and Mail on Sunday columnist Piers Morgan.

Simon’s ex-girlfriends - singer Sinitta and TV presenter Terri Seymour - and his close friend Jackie St Claire will also be there.

Sir Philip himself has overseen the design of the invitations - which feature the X Factor judge surrounded by four saucily-clad angels in Heaven. The silver invitation, which looks like a mirror, was chosen by Sir Philip as a tongue-in-cheek reference to Cowell’s vanity, after he admitted he spent hours checking his appearance.

Insiders say that the party will have a Twenties theme.

Wrotham Park is only 30minutes out of the centre of London and was used as a backdrop for the film Gosford Park

A source close to Sir Philip said last night: ‘He has been very involved with planning the whole event, from overseeing the guest list to designing the invitations.

‘There will be a sit-down three-course meal with vintage champagne served throughout the evening.

‘There will also be a free bar all night. Philip has said the drink is to flow freely and no expense is to be spared.’

Guests will be treated to a cocktail party from 8pm till 8.45pm. They will then sit down in a vast marquee for the birthday dinner. Later, partygoers will take to a huge wooden dancefloor laid in the marquee.

Wrotham Park is a Palladian mansion set in the heart of a 2,500-acre estate 30 minutes from the centre of London, and was used for scenes for the movie Gosford Park.

Special lighting and set designers have been brought in to make the venue look absolutely stunning, one of the organisers said.
‘On top of a £25,000 bill for erecting the marquee, thousands of pounds will be spent on decorations and lighting.’

Yesterday, a friend of Cowell said: ‘Simon wants all his nearest and dearest at the party to watch him turn 50.

‘He didn’t want to go off for a boys’ weekend to Vegas and decided a big party would be more fun. He had a bit of a wobble about reaching half a century but he has decided to embrace it rather than hide away.

'As far as he is concerned, he’s richer and happier than he has ever been.’

The Greens reportedly spent £4million on their son Brandon’s three-day bar mitzvah in the South of France in 2005, hiring opera singer Andrea Bocelli and Destiny’s Child, with Beyoncé, to perform.

For his 50th, Sir Philip chartered a Boeing 747 to fly 200 guests to Cyprus for a toga
party, where Rod Stewart was paid £750,000 to perform a 40-minute set.
