Default Bono's wife Ali sues Stella McCartney over use of the word 'nude' in new perfume line

Stella in a stink over perfume

All in the name: Stella McCartney

Nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005, rock star Bono seemingly spends most of his time these days flying around the globe, meeting world leaders and campaigning on humanitarian issues.
Likewise, his pal Sir Paul McCartney, who is equally passionate about Third World debt and animal rights.
So you might have thought this pair of icons of peace and love would have been able to settle a little local dispute between their respective family members.
For Bono's wife, charity campaigner Ali Hewson, 47, and Sir Paul's fashion designer daughter, Stella, are about to lock horns in a court action. Ludicrously, the case centres on just one word - 'nude'.
I gather Ali and her business partner, Bryan Meehan, 40, the founder of the organic food chain Fresh And Wild, are suing Stella's eponymous company over the use of the word 'nude' in her new fragrance, Stella Nude, an eau de toilette version of her Stella perfume.
Unfortunately, Ali and Bryan also have a company called Nude Skincare, with Helena Christensen among its devotees.
'Nude Skincare is suing for compensation, not because of anything to do with the scent of the perfume but because of branding and the use of the word "nude",' I am told.
'It would be quite funny if it wasn't being taken so seriously. There are other perfumes with similar names, after all.'
But the 'nude' idea, I am informed, is already a big part of Stella's fashion brand. She has already created a collection based on 'nude' flesh tones. Indeed, this summer, Stella's catwalk shows featured models in flesh tones from head to toe.
A writ has been issued, but Stella's company is hoping to settle the matter out of court. My spy behind the perfume counter tells me: 'Stella isn't likely to make any changes now because the fragrance is coming out in September and nudity is a big part of the perfume's "look". The bottle, for example, is a nude colour.'
The case will come before the Chancery division, which deals with copyright infringement and patent claims, this autumn if Bono and Sir Paul don't manage a last-minute peace initiative.

Furore: Ali Hewson, seen here with husband Bono, launched the court case with her business partner over the use of the word 'nude'

This case will get tossed out. Quite a few companies use 'Nude' as a perfume name- Bijan, Bill Blass, YSL.

Oh please. Get ready to sue almost every cosmetics company out there. And I hope the Pillsbury Dough Boy files a lawsuit against you for infringing on his name. Stupid cow.

    1. Why does Stella M always look so cheap? Those shoes should be in a Payless aisle from 1995. Hideous.

    2. Ali H looks amazing.

Yep, case will get thrown out.

Reminds me of the time when Angelina thought she had a monopoly on the word "Shiloh."

I think anyone who uses the term "nude" when there isn't an actual naked body around should be sued.

I've always thought that. I don't get her style. Everything looks cheap. She works hard, but her success has a lot to do with her father.
