Sacha Baron Cohen is hoping to win over some of his fiercest critics with his latest magazine offering.

The Bruno star appears on the cover of Attitude this month following accusations from some sections of the gay community that his character promotes rather than satirises homophobia.

The controversial comedian, who plays a flamboyant Austrian designer in his latest big screen film, peeled right off for the front cover of the UK's best selling gay magazine.

Sacha Baron Cohen appears on the cover of gay magazine Attitude as his controversial alter ego Bruno

The photograph appears under the tag line: 'Comedy genius of the most homophobic film ever made?'
In the interview, which Cohen conducted as his outrageous alter ego, he cites his favourite gay icons as X Factor boss Simon Cowell and singers Kylie and Dannii Minogue.

Bruno, who has also appeared on GQ and Marie Claire, said: 'Simon Cowell is my gay icon. Ein totally straight man who dresses like he does and loves scheisse pop musik.

'And Kylie and Dannii? I love them. Kylie’s like ein Barbie doll zat’s been shrunk a little bit and Dannii is like a Kylie doll zat’s been left on the radiator for too long.'

The comedian, seen here at the LA premiere last week, has jetted around the globe to promote his new film

The cover follows claims Bruno is offensive and perpetuates gay stereotyping.

Rashad Robinson, of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, said last month: 'Some people in our community may like this movie, but many are not going to be OK with it.

'Sacha Baron Cohen's well-meaning attempt at satire is problematic in many places and outright offensive in others.'
Actor Peter Paige, from US TV series Queer As Folk, echoed the sentiment, saying: 'When you see a Bruno clip in a room full of gay men, everyone laughs and it’s fine.'

In demand Bruno has already appeared on the cover of GQ and Marie Claire

'When you see a Bruno clip in a room full of straight men, they’re all laughing, and it’s a different thing. You start to go, "Hmmm, I don’t know how I feel about this."'
Claims were made that producers were forced to undertake 'significant reshoots' after preview audiences reacted angrily to the film.
Universal Pictures declined to confirm or deny the reports but in a statement, the studio said the 'overwhelming majority of the audience' would understand that the film seeks to lampoon homophobia.

I used to think that the little line of hair leading down from a man's navel could be sexy as hell - I think those pictures have just changed my mind.

A bucketload of wax. And he's a hairy mary so it must have hurt like hell. All for his art of course. He's really quite a pretty boy.

Bah, Sacha's much prettier.

Ben looks haggard lately.

Sacha really is a pretty boy when he's cleaned up.

It's really awesome how in character he gets for these roles.

I can't believe this man portrayed 'Borat' as well.

So talented.

And apparently he tried to bleach the hair first...

Sacha Baron Cohen Suffered Allergic Reaction To Body Hair Bleach On 'Bruno' Set

Sacha Baron Cohen was stricken with an embarrassing ailment while filming his new movie Bruno - he reportedly suffered an allergic reaction while bleaching his body hair.

The British funnyman decided he needed have smooth skin to play the outrageous gay fashion journalist - but instead of opting for a painful waxing treatment, the comic decided to lighten his body hair instead.
But Cohen's plan backfired when a burning rash broke out all over his body in reaction to the bleach, according to British newspaper The Sun.

A source tells the publication, "Sacha is committed to as much realism as he can muster in his films. He'd heard all-over hairlessness is a popular trend in the gay community, so he thought he would bleach all his hair so it would look invisible. But it turned into a disaster.

"He had a bad allergic reaction to the hydrogen peroxide. It was so severe he couldn't sit down for three days. He had to make an emergency appointment with a doctor, who gave him medication to counter the irritation."

I don't get his appeal either. I though the Borat trailers were hilarious, but the movie itself vastly overrated and not that funny.

I am not impressed at all with the trailers for his new movie. Personally I don't find his schtick very funny at all. His kind of comedy works best in short spurts, like those Jackass shows.
