Dangerous Drug Found in Jackson Home
Posted Jun 30th 2009 11:39PM by TMZ Staff
Sources tell TMZ an extremely dangerous and potent drug used for surgical anesthesia was found at Michael Jackson's house after he died.
We're told the drug Propofol was discovered at the residence. The drug is used to put people under anesthesia before surgery. It is an extremely powerful drug that is only available to medical personnel. As one source said, "There is no conceivable way this drug can be properly prescribed for home use."
The drug can only be administered with an IV. Interestingly, Propofol burns and the drug Lidocaine is used to reduce the pain associated with the Propofol injection. As we first reported, Lidocaine was found near Jackson's body.
One of the major side-effects of Propofol is cardiac arrest if it's taken in combination with narcotic painkillers, however, Propofol is so powerful it can stop someone's heart on its own.
A registered nurse has come out and said Jackson begged her for the drug Diprivan -- the brand name for Propofol. She says he needed it for insomnia but she declined to supply it.
Sources say the drug is so inappropriate and reckless for home use, if a doctor facilitated it for Jackson, he or she could be prosecuted for manslaughter.

Okay, this is inneresting to me, as I have my own experiences with this drug. It was given to me six years ago before an anesthesia.
I had an extreme reaction to it and almost died from it. I thought the anesthetist made a mistake, so I did some reserach on the drug, trying to find out who I had to sue for what.
I found out: Propofol-Infusion-Syndrom is supposed to be uncommon, it is potentially fatal. I may never take this drug again or else I will die, probaly from heart failure.
Even though it makes you happy or horny on occasion, recreational use of this drug makes no sense. To think Jacko used it home is ludicrious!
On the other hand, one possible symptom of Propofol Infusion Syndrom is cardiac arrest....
Here's what wiki has to say.

It can if you have lots of $$$.
This is terribly awful, all of this. This guy was on every med under the moon I bet. Imagine wanting anesthesia just so you can sleep. WTF?
yea,....he was a messed up individual. Instead of using his money to get mental help and therapy to get over his past, he used his money to take the easy way out. Makes me sick,...he wasted his life by his own choices and died. Guess he got what he wanted.
Seriously, this is THE most shocking thing I've read about him. Propofol is used to sedate people with brain injury, trauma, etc. It's used most commonly in a SICU or MICU setting. For someone to use this on their own is beyond shocking. Patients need to have a protected airway and be on multiple monitors for it to be used safely. You also have to have a reversal drug available at all times. There's a really delicate balance between sedating someone and completely surpressing their respiratory drive.
I cannot believe any physician would give this to him for home use. It would be similar to giving yourself general anesthesia at home and expecting yourself to wake up and be ok.
Out of all of it, the molestation charges, Jesus Juice, multiple plastic surgeries, chimps, Peter Pan....this is truly the most shocking thing I've heard about MJ.
ETA: I've already heard 5 conversations about this between MDs and nurses this morning. Everyone is totally shocked that he'd have this drug at home.
^^ BUT there is no point in taking it. You don't get muc out of it.
Addicts distinguish carefully between stuff that gives you a rush and stuff that doesn't.
This drug is potentially fatal, unless you are closely monitored while on it.
That's what happened to me. Took me forever to recover. When I did my research I asked many anesthetists what they thought of Propofol, and a lot of them had bad experiences with it. They don't use it, unless absolutely necessary. Ideally, the patient has to stay at the hospital at least a few days after being given Propofol.
There is no way Jacko took this stuff at home just for fun. I'm sure MJ's doc has access to more... appropriate drugs. OR if Jacko did take this stuff at home, the people around him were even more ruthless than I ever thought. If this is true, they basically put him in a coma 24/7.

I cannot fathom how any amount of money would be worth it. Any physician would know there's a huge chance he'd die if he took it while unattended by a medical professional (and not just a primary care physician or the like, it'd have to be someone well versed in anesthesia/trauma/emergency medicine etc).
If he dies and they find out you gave it to him, you're on the hook. Not only would you lose your license (not a big deal if you're given a buttload of money) but I can imagine you could be charged with criminal charges.
I just can't see how it's worth it.
Now it's possible he wanted to die. In fact, that seems like the only sane explanation.
But if he was using to to knock himself out then it makes sense (in his warped thinking, anyway). What goes up must come down, and if he was using other narcotics during his waking hours for the 'rush' he'd then need something to put him out when he needed to sleep. Rinse 'n' repeat daily until you get busted or snuff it.

Maybe he took it just so he could sleep. I know there was a nurse on tv last night saying he told her he wanted to sleep for ten days, to give him some meds for it. She refused.
You and I can't but some people only see dollar signs in their eyes and others just want to feel numb.
Jackson the junkie.
A 'great' father as many have claimed this week my ass. Sounds like he was always on something or always looking for something. The man was a total hypochondriac. I highly doubt he needed all the drugs he is alleged to have taken, he just complained of an ailment and his enablers, money and celebrity persuasion got him what he want.
How can anyone - whether they have the best intentions towards their children or not - be a great, attentive, committed parent when they're so hooked on playing Doctor with ridiculous and dangerous drugs?
He was a mess and he died a mess. What a legacy.

The getting sleep thing doesn't ring true though. Anyone who has had sedation knows you don't wake up alert and well rested. Almost everyone wakes up groggy and confused. Some come out of the fog earlier than others but most people feel pretty snowed for the entire first day.
