Mel Gibson's wife files for divorce--FINALLY!

LOS ANGELES – Court records show Mel Gibson's wife has filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage.

Robyn Gibson filed the petition in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences.

The petition doesn't give any details about the split. Robyn Gibson is seeking jewelry and some other property, and has suggested joint custody for their 9-year-old son.

The records show the couple were married in June 1980.

They issued a joint statement Monday, saying they have "always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so."

Gibson is one of Hollywood's biggest names, with a pair of Oscar wins for best picture and director for "Braveheart."

The divorce was first reported by celebrity gossip site TMZ.

It's sad that a marriage ends after 28 years. But I guess if Gibson is as messed up as it seems then it's not entirely surprising.

I just meant in the sense that either way, even if it was happy for the majority or if she was miserable. It's still sad to see a long-term relationship dissolve, for whatever reason.

The reason is Mel sucking face with women on the beach and being photographed. I guess that did it.

Oh, I agree with you levitt. They have tons of kids too. I guess the rest of them are grown if only the 9-year old is mentioned in the divorce filing.

I was watching the local news, and this being LA, it was breaking news!! They said they had been separated for two years and they have 7 kids, all but the 9 year old are adults.

Finally. I can't understand how he justifies his behavior when he is such a staunch Catholic. I know a lot of Catholics are pretty bad, but come on, he was so open about his faith, how important it was to him, etc. etc. Where does it say anywhere in his faith that he can be a womanizing, racist, abuser?

and I know a lot of Catholics who are good people..

it's a sad thing when people divorce, she's stuck it out a long time with a person who has a lot of really bad issues and it looks like she stuck it out for the sake of the kids. I think they have 5 children.

If they were separated for 2 years, then Mel probably didn't consider cavorting on the beach with a young hot piece of ass to be cheating. But still, it's about damn time that woman left his carousing ass. Good for her!
