Default Kurt Cobain's estate robbed of $30 million cash & $500 million in real estate

    April 7, 2009 --
COURTNEY Love finally sobered up and realized that some of the people handling Kurt Cobain's estate had lost all the money the Nirvana frontman had left her and their daughter, Frances Bean, her lawyer says.
A team of investigators, forensic accountants and lawyers found that Cobain's estate had been looted of more than $30 million cash and up to $500 million in real estate.
"I have never seen such greed and moral turpitude. This case is going to make Bernard Madoff look warm and fuzzy," Love's lawyer, Rhonda J. Holmes, of Gordon & Holmes in San Diego, told Page Six.
"We will be filing civil cases . . . within the next 30 days. There are many, many millions missing. We've only been able to track down $30 million, but there is more. And then there is the real estate."
According to Holmes, bank accounts using Cobain, Love and Frances Bean's Social Security numbers were set up and used to buy and sell real estate across the US.
"There is now a web of homes which were bought, flipped and used to launder money -- up to $500 million worth," Holmes said. "Any of the property we can get back will be donated to people who have lost their homes in foreclosures."
Asked how this could have happened, Holmes said, "Courtney noticed the money was gone when there wasn't any left. It's no secret she struggled with substance-abuse issues, but in the last year she's taken a more serious approach to sobriety and started noticing things were wrong. She hired private investigators, accountants and me.
"We are also working with local and federal authorities," Holmes said. "When Mr. Cobain died in 1994, he left his enormously wealthy estate behind for the benefit of his mother, two sisters, a brother, his wife and young daughter. Many of those [involved with] the estate's coffers mismanaged, stole and outright looted it shamelessly."

I know Courtney is a functionally illiterate addict, but I have felt for years that she was probably not just being paranoid about all this shit. She might be hard-pressed to spell "cat", but something tells me she knows her shit when it comes to money.

Even when she made that nonsensical blog post, I could tell she was screaming about identity theft and/or money laundering. She may look and act stupid as fuck, but when it comes to the Dollar, she probably knows what she has (or should have) to the penny.

Hey you don't have to be all that smart to notice money is missing. Matter of fact it says she only noticed it was missing when it was all gone.

So Courtney's batshit crazy and has her own faults for sure but that's horrible if those figures are true. That's a lot of money to be stolen and it's wrong no matter who it was stolen from.

I never said she was smart (because I certainly don't think she is) but this isn't just balancing a check book after getting a meager paycheck. It probably wouldn't catch anyone's eye until it was gone. She also supposedly "had people handling the money" so unless she was up their asses 24/7 (which I would've been, because I don't trust any accountants...I've worked for too many! lol) she probably figured they knew what they were doing.

Bill Cosby had the right idea about finances. If you have an accountant take care of your money...you won't have any money!

I dislike many of the choices she has made but frankly I don't think her mother gave her the tools to cope with life. And as much as she may come across as a raving lunatic over the years, I always saw how fragile she really is.
I feel the same way about Amy Winehouse.

I never thought she was making this shit up, it was hard to believe because of her antics and the medias public portrayal of her.

Agree with you to a point, but she brought on her own portrayal by being such an obvious crackhead. I have a relative (ok, it's my sister) who has been sober for some time and I still don't believe everything she says because of her past. She was notorious for making shit up.

I think Courtney fell victim to the same thing; you cry wolf long enough and nobody will listen when the wolf really does come.

You make a very valid point. Trust takes time and must be earned but there were so many red flags in this situation.

    Again, great point.

Article is flawed. She wasn't robbed of $500 million of real estate. Their SS #s were allegedly used to buy that much real estate. The stealing of $30 million sounds slightly plausible, but then again, this is coming from Courtney's camp, so this could also just be an excuse for why she doesn't have any money left.

Mind you that was back in the early 90's, back before you could download your music and not everyone had a computer. NeverMind went 10 times platinum if you can believe it, and i can't remember how much an album cost back then but damn thats alot of money to be making. And Courtney goes and looses it all... for shame. Makes the whole dead bird in the matchbox seem a little irrelevent now.

The only person I feel bad for is Frances Bean.. she has a mother who was too drugged up to notice shit was going missing and now she has to grow up dealing with all this bullshit. No, Courtney doesn't deserve it.. but poor Frances.

    I think that too.
I loathe Love and have always felt she was a totally irresponsible mother because of her lifestyle.
Not keeping tabs on Frances inheritance only makes me hate her more.
