I've never heard of him but i'm tired seeing famous black people doing their best to eradicate black features. Maybe he's just ill....and his eyes have changed colour due to..er..illness

Sammy's actually mixed, both Black and Hispanic I believe. But even in Hispanic cultures, most people want to be lighter and have "good hair". That's mostly with women though, why he'd care I dunno.
I'm guessing that maybe steroids are fucking with his skin. It's possible.

That's quite a change in 6 months.
I'll just have to wait for the (minor) controversy to pick up steam before sammy himself explains WTF is going on.
Probably the old 'was ill/vitiglio' excuse.

His skin does look all blotchy. Maybe he has make up on and the lighting was bad?

Sammy Sosa tells friends he is comfortable in his own skin.
But a widely circulated photo of the former Cubs slugger makes his skin color appear several shades lighter.
"He's not trying to be Michael Jackson," said former Cubs employee Rebecca Polihronis, who talks frequently with Sosa.
Sosa was photographed recently during an appearance at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
"He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin," Polihronis said. "Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of (the photo appearance) is just the lighting.
"He is in the middle of doing a cleansing process to his skin. The picture is deceiving. He said, 'If you saw me in person, you would be surprised. When you see me in person, it is not going to seem like the picture.'
"People who saw him in person did not react the same way. He can't believe it is such a big deal."
Polihronis, the former Cubs Care/Community Relations manager for the team, said Sosa told her he has used moisturizing treatment at night on his face.
"He has always been concerned with the way he looks," she said. "Probably just bad timing going to an awards show."
Among the possible side effects for some laser skin rejuvenation methods include discoloration of the skin. The treated area may become lighter or darker in appearance.
"He was doing a dermatological skin process after years and years (of playing baseball) in the sun," Polihronis said. "It did come out looking weird (in the picture)."

Do you do a "skin rejuvenation process" on your ears?

What in the name of Michael Jackson is up with Sammy Sosa? - Big League Stew - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
Retirement, or something, appears to be changing Sammy Sosa(notes). He and wife, Sonia, were recently in Las Vegas for the Latin Grammys, which included a tribute on Wednesday to singer Juan Gabriel. Photogs caught the Sosas on the red carpet and Sonia looks fabulous as always. As for Sammy ... well, there's no getting around it, but Sammy looked kind of pale.
His skin is undeniably lighter than at any time since he broke into the majors in 1989. Is it an illness, or a condition such as Vitiligo, in which depigmentation occurs? Is Sammy just bleaching his skin for fashion's sake? (Heh, "just.")
I wonder if he is changing his look, simply because his eyes are a different color. Sammy was born with brown eyes. He's taken to wearing green contact lenses and, quite frankly, they are extremely creepy. Is he co-starring in the upcoming "Twilight" sequel? The plastic suit also bothers me, just because it does.
Sammy, who hasn't played since 2007, has been accused of using modern chemistry to help him attain 609 career homers — including three seasons of 60-plus. Perhaps he's turning to science to give him a different veneer as he approaches his 41st birthday. Below, check out a few comparison shots to judge for yourself.

Shiny suit: check. Shiny hair: check. New fake eyes: check. Skin: as you were.

There's our brown-eyed handsome man. He generally resembles the skinny kid from San Pedro De Macoris. He also married well.

Sammy liked to do stuff to his hair back in the day. Has it lead to some kind of total obsession about his look?

The King of Pop underwent a similar kind of transformation.

You know what, if he wants to change the colour of his skin, well it's his life and his skin. I don't think anyone who hasn't lived life as a black man has any right to criticize.

Maybe he just wants ighter skin because he thinks he looks better this way not because he doesn't wants to be black or some other race issue.

This is so terrifying. I don't even understand how its possible. bit at any rate- I think his eyes were somewhat light before (unless he started w. the contacts soon):
His skin looks splotchy or affected somehow?

Whatever happened to him looks painful and unhealthy. A skin rejuvenation process should rejuvenate your skin not do whatever that is. Can steroids do this?
