She was once Hollywood's sweetheart, but yesterday Meg Ryan turned heads for all the wrong reasons.
While house-hunting in New York, she joined Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Angelina Jolie in the growing list of A-list stars with unsightly blood vessels protruding from their skinny arms, thanks to the pressure to remain fit and thin in Hollywood.
Dressed casually in loose black jeans, a white shirt, and a straw hat, the 50-year-old actress was spotted looking at townhouses in Chelsea so that she can live closer to, or perhaps move in with, her 60-year-old rocker boyfriend John Mellencamp.

Wearing three-quarter sleeves and lifting an orange shopping bag only accentuated the fading star's visibly-strained veins, as well as the telling tattoo on her forearm that reads, 'life is short.'
Meg has had real estate on the brain for the past year after putting her six-bedroom Bel Air mansion on the market for $11.4 million.
Meg appeared pale and drawn, lacking that bubbly glow she possessed in her hit films When Harry Met Sally and Innerspace.
The trout-pouted star is said to have always worked hard to keep her body in shape with regular workouts, and she is also believed to have had lip implants as well as Botox injections to avoid the signs of aging.
According to health and fitness experts, prominent veins are usually a sign of physical over-exertion, and they become more evident as the body ages.
These busy celebrity mothers and their disciplined diets low in salt and carbohydrates can also be blamed for the lack of hydration in their skin.

Some stars even fast, do cleanses, or bathe in epsom salts in order to look camera-ready for red carpet events.
Nowadays celebrities can implement a variety of anti-aging procedures such as laser treatments, vein removal, and injectable fillers to combat the visible veins for a price.
Pop star Madonna's personal trainer Tracy Anderson has said that the 53-year-old's veiny arms might have something to do with her three-hour sessions of Ashtanga yoga.
'I have completely changed Madonna's body. I told her to forget everything she had been taught before and to give up yoga, which can make you look terribly veiny,' Miss Anderson told the Daily Mail in 2009.
'Madonna's very healthy and looks fantastic but those veins have nothing to do with me.'
The always slim Sarah Jessica Parker, 47, is known for keeping to a tough daily exercise regime of running, climbing stairs, yoga, and pilates, which unfortunately prematurely ages her.
Angelina Jolie, 36, is reportedly a fan of the £200-a-time caviar skin treatment extracted from the eggs of Baerii sturgeon, reared on farms in the South of France.

Because of the high oil and protein content of caviar, it promises to 'drench the skin with moisture and nourishment' and combat 'loss of firmness and slackened skin.'
Meanwhile Meg, who is mother to adopted daughter Daisy, 7, and son Jack, 19, hasn't starred in a film since 2009 when she took the lead in Serious Moonlight, which failed to impress many critics or take much at the box office.
However, she's set to return to the screen this year in Lives Of Saints, out later this year.
Meg will star alongside Kat Dennings, John Lithgow, 50 Cent, and Anthony Anderson in the drama.
