Tacky? In which way? In all the interviews I've seen of Selena, she was actually pretty humble. Her stage outfits were also pretty tame compared to what these girls are wearing nowadays...heck, at least she wore underwear! lol

sorry, i didn't mean to offend you but i think she was tacky. and a lot of what girls wear today is tacky to but that has nothing to do with it.
i think the costumes, the hair, etc... were all kind of cheesy. sorry.

Senseless tragedy. I believe they were getting started on promoting her more in the American market (broaden her talent instead of just being in the Latino market). Never really thought her vocals were that strong, but she sure had an unhibited stage presence and always that ever-present big smile for you. (She even had a line of clothing that she was expanding, que no?)

Yeah. She loved fashion and was very excited. I believe her and her husband were even gonna start trying for kids. I love her songs and the movie was very good. I can't watch it without crying.

Maybe it's because of where I live, but I knew who she was. Had a couple of friends who were huge fans. She did win a Grammy while still alive, after all.

And if the outfits look a little cheesy-tacky today, bear in mind most of that stuff she's wearing was early to mid 90's. I can't think of much from that era that isn't cheesy to me today. (But careful, in another ten years it will be in style again and called "retro" just like everything I wore in the 80's)

I knew who Selena was before she died, but I'm from Texas (and so was she). I do now and did then think she's overrated; definitely an above-average singer, but nothing spectacular. Tejano was and continues to be one of the most god-awful forms of music on planet Earth. And she didn't even speak Spanish, you could tell by the way she pronounced all the Spanish words so pre-cise-ly and pho-ne-ti-cal-ly in the songs she did in Spanish. Just cashing in on the Espanol market! Her death was tragic for her and her family and it's sad she died so young, but I'm not heartbroken over it.

Her major legacy, and the one she'll probably be remembered most for around here, is the plethora of little girls named "Selena" in her honor. The name peaked in popularity in 1995-1996, so we have a whole tween demographic (mostly Latina) here all named "Selena".

Another er... a size zero was in existence before Selena, and will always be there. People really go cuckoo over body image. Ever thought that some women can't help their body type?
