There was something about her face that just LIT UP when she smiled. A real spark of life that lent her an extraordinary beauty. I think this is what made her attractive to everyone, male or female. Because I agree, when she wasn't smiling and had no makeup on, she was pretty ordinary and plain. But as soon as she smiled, makeup or not, she was radiant.

This is funny how you bumped this thread up because there was a Marilyn Monroe movie on last night on the AMC channel. The one where she sings 'Diamonds are a girls best friend"....anyway, I'm sorry, but I found her speaking voice sooooo annoying. I think her acting was so fake and I kept looking at the television wanting to see what makes her so 'beautiful' to people and I can't figure it out.

Marilyn Monroe was extremely photogenic that I will give her. The camera loved her because she was one of those persons who looked better in photos than in person. But on film, I still don't think she was that great.

WoW thanks Beyond! I love the De Dienes photos from 1946 and 1949; she looks so young even for a 23 year old. And more and more (besides the documented small chin-implant and nose sculpting) I believe that she had an eyebrow lift of some sort getting rid of that extra eyelid skin she had and lifting the brows, b/c they were awfully high once she became a star. But I dont mean to start some heated conversation about her alleged cosmetic surgery, it was just an observation. Thanks again!

Aww, she looks so cute and innocent in those pics with the bow in her hair. Bless her heart.

Thank you beyondxwonderland vbmenu_register("postmenu_481973", true); i love Marilyn, she was amazing looking.

About the plastic surgery. I have read that she may have had a nose job, she certainly had her teeth fixed.

First of all: beyondxwonderland, GORGEOUS collection of very rare photos
    of this sweet beauty.
Do you know if her naturally brown hair was also naturally curly?
    Thanks for sharing these gems.

^Well, I saw a documentary once in which they showed the old files of
the PS clinic and the studio notes about her PS.
What I remember is that they liked her photos (I suppose her modelling
work) but that she was jotted down in the initial file at the studio as
    "the girl with no chin".....
So that was the biggest thing she had done, I think and from what I
can tell from beyondxwonderland's pics it must have happened before
1945. Her nose was also more bulbous at first. The rest could be
baby-fat. I never used to have much of eyelids either and thought
that would only get worse as I aged. But the opposite is true:
the older I get, the bigger my eyelids become.....
