Thats an interesting shot b/c she rarely posed for photos w/ her mouth completely closed and eyes fully open. I read in the Marilyn Monroe Encyclopedia that she was taught and learned to always have her lips at least a little parted for various reasons so the classic 'Marilyn' pose is with her mouth open like she might be about to orgasm. (its true guys read it yourself!) And in general her eyes would barely be open to go along with that like she was heavy eye-lidded.

The funny thing is; everytime I've tried to pose like that I look really stupid and/or drunk!
I never knew that - thanks for the info! I've just tried this pose for myself and I look idiotic so there must be a secret art to it!

I honestly don't think Marilyn would have aged that badly and I think she looked YOUNG for her age not older!
    Still LOVE her!
    Curiouser and curiouser...

yeah honestly it was the 50's/60's; they didnt have many options back then, thats why she wore gloves so much in her later years to hide her aging hands - which isn't from hard living; your hands age from the damn sun which nobody knew was so damaging back then and I think we're all so used to all the options we have today to ward off aging (and seeing our celebrities today doing the same w/ hardcore airbrushing); I really think she looked great for her age throughout the years but I guess we just disagree on that. I'm just trying to defend my beautiful dead idol somehow and yes she was a pill popper and champagne drinker but I love her still.

I know she looked really good w/ any hair length; I wish I could pull off short hair like that! -also shorter hair is sometimes aging so maybe thats why she seemed more mature-looking to some ppl.

You think she looked young for her age? Good Lord, then you would certainly think I look a teenager, because I am her age when she died and I don't look anything close to the age she looked...lol

(but, then again - I was asked for I.D going into a casino recently...heehee)

ok Im not going to mention the SPF that comes in all our products now-a-days and all the advances in technologies that make it possible for modern women to preserve their skin and looks longer that they didn't have back then b/c some ppl aren't getting it! so I'm just gonna mention this:

    Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to uphold yourself
    While those around you crawled

They crawled out of the woodwork
And they whispered into your brain
They set you on a treadmill
And they made you change your name

And it seems to me, you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
    When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
    Your legend ever did

    Lonliness was tough
The toughest role you ever played
    Hollywood created a superstar
And pain was the price you paid

    Even when you died
Oh, the press still hounded you
All the papers had to say
Was that Marilyn was found in the nude

And it seems to me, you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
    When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
    Your legend ever did

    Goodbye Norma Jean
Though I never knew you at all
    Goodbye Norma Jean
From the young man in the twenty-second row
Who sees you as something more than sexual
    More than just Marilyn Monroe

And it seems to me, you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
    When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
    Your legend ever did

    Goodbye Norma Jean
    Goodbye Norma Jean
    Goodbye
    Goodbye Norma Jean

hope u enjoyed that little diddy

I agree! I'm 36 and I don't have age spots! I don't even have wrinkles yet *knocking on wood*. Maybe she had a bad liver...or all those years of drug use too it's toll.

Did anyone ever see the picture of Marilyn in the morgue? OH MY GOD, she looked horrible!! I mean, I know that a dead person is bound to look different, but she was practically unrecognizable. Without the makeup, the false eyelashes, the bleached hair, she was a mess. She died of drugs, not any real trauma to her face or body. I just can't figure out why she looked so...different.

Here it is...pretty graphic so open at your own discretion.

For someone who was so unhappy and depressed she always looked good. Most of what I read about her mentions that she was not a well or happy woman.

I still dont believe she killed herself.

Jeez, some of you folks are so shallow and judgmental. Marilyn Monroe was a beautiful woman, but back then they didn't have photoshop and airbrushing, so yes, you can see some crows feet or wrinkles. God forbid! Plastic surgery wasn't very advanced back then, either, so she didn't have the options that movie stars have today. So she was not the perfect little Barbie doll some of you folks prefer, but she was very attractive. And as far as the pious moralizing abut her "selling SEX"...so what? Sex is sold today, and more obnoxiously than Marilyn "sold" it.

Agreed, edie & Alice. Marilyn was a gorgeous woman - and she looked like a woman. She wasn't airbrushed and starved to hell and back and she was still beautiful.

As for a reason as to why she looked so different in the picture after her death . . . if I recall correctly, she died face down. After death, the blood pools in the body, because it cannot circulate anymore. Since she was on her stomach, all the blood in her body would have pooled in her face, chest, stomach and the front of her legs. It would change the way she looked even if she died with a face full of make up on.

Death immediately changes the way people look, period.

She was lovely...the perfect combo of sexy/sultry, yet sweet and wholesome. She made it easy for women to like her because she never came off as aloof, stuck up, or bitchy.

I cannot help but notice in her morgue photo that she had very large ears.

She was beautiful, but she looked alot older than she was. Not by comparisons of todays 36 year old actresses, but of other women of her era.

She was 3 years older than Audrey Hepburn, for example - yet when Marilyn made "The Misfits" at 35, Audrey made "Breakfast at Tiffany's". Marilyn looked much older than 35 in that movie - I'd say much closer to 40, yet Audrey - although just 3 years younger (32) looked 25. Audrey was 35 when she did "My Fair Lady" and still didn't look anywhere near 30.

Marilyn lived hard and therefore, it showed.

she looked bad when she died b/c she died w/ her face facing downward in a pillow and your blood settles like that at the lowest points on your body where gravity pulls it when you die b/c its not pumping anymore throughout the body and you have burst capillaries where ever that happens like she did around her face. It happens once Rigor Mortis has set in. I can't believe you would even compare a pic of her dead face to anything. I shouldn't even be addressing such a comment but thought I'd share some more enlightenment on the situation.

-and her age spots, the few that she had, were on her hands where a lot of ppl get them who are so light skinned like she was and who live in sunny places like L.A. where she did and who don't use SPF lotion which she didn't obviously b/c they didnt have that shit back then let alone the knowledge that the sun is so damaging. I feel badly for her b/c she had common laugh lines but rarely had the reason to laugh in her real life - only for the cameras.

    - I still say thats part of the many reasons why the Kennedy's have such terrible karma is b/c of 1 or 2 of their family members part in her death.

YES! she did actually and she was very self-conscious of that fact so she tried to always have them covered when she appeared on film! -how funny you should say that.

That morgue photo is probably the only ugly picture of her that exists.

Hate to break someone's bubble, but most people don't look beautiful dead. Guess that is one of the new beauty criteria now:"She looked exquisite and flawless dead".

My cousin died of colon cancer. She was 42 years old. She looked beautiful in her coffin. Also, have you seen the pictures of the singer Selena in her coffin? She looked really good, it looks like she's sleeping. It's not bursting anyone's bubble. Some people look flawless when they've passed on, they've got a beautiful spiritual glow to them and others look like they lived a hard life and still haven't found peace...I had 4 cousins die of drug overdoses and all of them looked BAD. But then again, they all lived crazy lives. Spiritually, they were lost. When they died, they looked like pasty, hard mannequins in their coffins, it was really sad.

But on the flip side, my step-dad was skinny and ravaged by cancer when he died. I was shocked when I saw him at the funeral home. He looked great, he looked like he did when he was healthy and he was 58 years old. I can name a lot of people who looked beautiful in their coffins and others who looked terrible. Marilyn was not one of those persons that you can say that even in death she was still beautiful. Her life did take it's toll on her. There are a lot of people who've died of disease, illness, gunshots, car accidents, etc...they've had much more trauma to their bodies and yet they looked flawless, beautiful and peaceful in death--sometimes even better than they did in life.
