    yes, she really was.

    hey Tiara, check this out
"The Hollywood Movie Museum has fifteen of Marilyn Monroe's dresses, which range, according to the caretaker, from sizes 4 to 8 by today's sizes. The white dress she wore in "The Seven Year Itch" is a size eight."

"Today, a five-and-a-half foot woman weighing 140 pounds would most likely wear a size 12 dress. However, most five-and-a-half foot women do not have Marilyn's measurements (i.e. brimming with nice delicious breasts). Still, by all accounts, Marilyn Monroe did not wear what would be considered a size 16 today."

Sizes change over the years... the number may have been a 16 back then, but by now it could easily be called an 8 or 10. Like LunaShar said, it was probably more like an 8 (in today's sizes).

Either way, Liz Hurley would "kill herself" is she were as "fat" as Marilyn.

oh yes ^ I own that book by George Barris and its supposedly the last sitting of Marilyn before her death, its great cause it comes with narration and commentary and the shots are spectacularly beautiful and show more of Norma Jean than "Marilyn"; you see her wrinkles, frekcles, sagging, slight roots, fly-away hairs, the scar on her belly from an operation: everything real about her yet still more beautiful than anyone I've ever seen.

I'm so jealous of her for so many reasons (well except for her tragic painful tortured life & death) but in terms of her looks; how the hell did she have soo much healthy hair, if I bleached my hair w/ the bleach they had in the 50's for 15 years, I'd have no hair left I swear and she had a great full head of it till the end! Well I guess physical perfection like her only comes around once in a millennia. Venus de Milo, Cleopatra?, and Marilyn, (Liz Taylor a close 2nd)

Great pics everybody. Those George Barris shots are so bittersweet to look at, arent they? Poor woman.

The ones at the beach when she was younger are simply beautiful. You can tell she loved it there. They are my favorites.

I was pretty much obsessed with MM and have a large collection including 2 expensive paintings. I've since relinquished my "Marilyn decor" so they sit in my garage. I have books, posters, wine...(only thing i still collect b/ they are worth $). I've been to the largest MM collection ever. Still love her but no longer obsessed.
My FAVORITE photos of her is Milton Green's "ballerina series". Watch out cuz his son's an ass.

She is a very beutiful woman, no noubt about it. But I think she is being put on a pedestal like that because she died and left a legend, a myth of MM. You cannot not feel sorry for her and wonder how such a beutiful person could be so unhappy. Her eyes were always sad, even when she smiled.
But still, I have to say, I just cant call her a physical perfection.Though I do find her beautiful, absolutely lovely and adorable.
