Apparently she had quite the sexual appetite, too. I've always liked her gutsy style even tho she was often a monster on screen and off. She and I have a similar body type -- broad shoulders, busty, short-waisted and long legged, although I am taller than her. She played up her body's deficiencies. Edith Head pretty much invented shoulder pads for her.

She did look quite pretty in her younger years.
What the hell happened after middle age?
Did she have bad PS or something? She really
aged before her time, and badly at that.

I always think of the young Joan as gorgeous and calculating. She was so driven. So totally photogenic.

I recommend this book to lovers of the silver screen. It was my bible when I was a kid. Enormous coffee table book with all the great photographers, showing how their makeup was done and the designer's costume sketches.

she was gorgeous. what happened? i agree she didn't age well and the awful make up didn't help (the brow pencil and the demon lips especially). her natural brows were quite nice.
