Ava Gardner was born Christmas Eve 1922 and was considered to be one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood of her time. She married 3 times and was the second wife of Frank Sinatra. She and Sinatra and had a volatile relationship. They divorced after several break-ups and reconciliations. He was a notorious womanizer and she was loud, mouthy and reportedly drank a lot. There are stories of them tearing up hotel rooms during heated arguments. Nonetheless, he supposedly always held a torch for her and even paid for her medical bills in 1990 after she'd had a stroke and was bed-ridden, even though he was married to his 5th wife at the time. Ava died at the age of 67 and never had children.

I'd be curious to see candid pics of her - it's difficult not to look good with that lighting

She was the personificaton of sensuality.
She lived quite hard though, could party all night long and then start
filming without ANY sleep. When she did Mogambo with Gable and Kelly,
everybody was amazed by her stamina. Later though, she did age quickly
though she always remained beautiful, and - perhaps because of her wild
lifestyle - got all kinds of ailments. Her love for alcohol and many
cigarettes didn't help much either.
Vital Stats and trivia:
Date of birth: December 24, 1922
Date of death: January 25, 1990
Height: 5'6"
Hair: Dark Brown
Eyes: Green
Trademarks: gorgeous woman, wild lifestyle, many husbands/men,
sultry looks and voice
About Ava:
Quote:
An Australian reporter found that Gardner was quite adept at foul
language, and her swearing was "like a sailor and a truck driver were having
a competition." Gardner threw a glass of champagne at the reporter, who
said that at the moment she did so, "the only thing I could think was how
bloody gorgeous the woman was."
Production designer John Hawkesworth, an Englishman who was the set-
dresser on her starring vehicle Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951),
said of Gardner that she "could eat twice as much as anyone and drink
three times as much."

I want to read a book about her...she seems fascinating. I've heard of her personality..she cursed a lot and was quite outspoken. She didn't put up with Frank Sinatra's shit at all...they supposedly fought like cats and dogs...and she drank and smoked like one of the guys...a girl after my own heart. We probably would've gotten along...lol

there's a big controversy about whether or not she's part Black and hid it through make-up and such and thats also a reason why she never had kids and escaped through booze and lovers.

She was Amazing
I'm from the same area of North Carolina that Ava was from and my family has known some of her brothers and cousins. She was astonishingly beautiful, just as everyone who ever met her said. It is actually true that sometimes people couldn't even speak at first because of her beauty. Many think that she was one of the most beautiful women ever and I think I agree from what I've learned and read about her.
She was not part black. That was something that came out of her filming Show Boat where her character was a mulatto. She sang her own songs in that but Mayer et al. chose to dub her, which was a shame. She was also very against racism and was known to boycott places that didn't allow minorities. Sammy Davis Jr. caused her a huge scandal by using her to advance his career, and make Frank jealous, one time.
Her looks came from her father's side of the family, and there's several small books around here that were written by friends of the family. in them there are photographs showing her blond and red hair when she was young. One has her first grade photo and she was stunning even then. The new biography about her called Love is Nothing is wonderful. It shows a haunting and somewhat tragic figure who lived her own life no matter what anyone thought or said. And yes, she stood up to Sinatra like no one ever had, and he was a wreck because of her. He actually grieved himself downhill after her death. That's how much they loved each other. There was a rumor he came to her funeral here, but he didn't. He sent flowers.
I think there should be a revival of her story and a film version too. Anyone that came close to killing Howard Hughes because he slapped her, should be praised and admired.
