I like Gackt. I enjoy his music, but, honestly, he looks unreal. Plastic, if you will.

Especially when he had the blonde, spiky hair, he resembled that Japanese anime character, Squall, from Final Fantasy 8. Or was Squall modelled after Gackt? I don't recall.

That's........not true at all. Sorry, but your friend is very misguided.

It is NOT a "big trend" for Japanese men to dress like women. Men in Japan pretty much dress the same as men in America and most places in Europe do. In fact, I'm sure many of them would be horrified that you think they all dress like women.

I'm guessing the magazine your friend brought was a visual kei magazine? Visual kei artists do crossdress a bit and wear extravagant, effeminate clothing, but most of them dress like ordinary people in daily life. Visual kei rockers do not represent how the general public dresses.

That was just bothering me, had to get it off my chest.


As for Gackt... I don't like the man...at all. He looks plastic and claims he's a vampire and god's gift to women. There's just something really icky about him. And to think, so many women think he is sexy.

hello... I'm Japanese and I concur with what pinkrabbit said. Artist like Gackt belongs to a musical genre called Visual Kei...they put more focus on how they look (kinda like goth and cos play combined..not so much different from Western version of glam rock where men painted their faces and put on lipstick). These artist for the most part dress normal in their private life when not on stage or TV.

Regular dudes look like regular dudes in Japan or Asia, though they might be more effimenate than Western male (Asian men tend to be slimmer, less mascular, difference in fashion trends etc I don't think it's anything bad, just ethnic/cultural difference).

That's subjective. I find androgynous-looking men and women to be very attractive most of the time, but this guy...I'm going with Edison on this particular subject. Grossy is a fitting description.
