The one at my dad's place is in town(metro area) warmer locale, only has partial winter kill, comes back as a larger and larger shrub, and does bloom nicely. Central Ohio here. I wish they had one that was just a bit hardier than the hardiest(Hopi cultivar). That is what I have here.

I have 2 crepe myrtles in the back yard. The one to the right of the porch ad 3 trunks (these are trees) the back one has 4 trunks. We palnted them 3 years ago-they are bushy bushy at top-loaded with white blooms. The neighbor behind us has one that is peeking over our fence-watermelon red. Gorgeous! I love the bark-it peeks and lookds great. These trees soak up sun like crazy. Very easy care, but they do have to be cut back late fall.

^^^ It's the genus name for bluebirds but now I'm never going to look at it the same way again. I studied them in grad school so it's a good thing I didn't have that image in my head for my PhD defence!

I bet they would be good in a homemade salsa!

I have been eating fresh delicious blueberries every day for the last week or so..just a few each day as they ripen. Yumm.

Two little 2 dollar plants from Walmart clearance stuck in barrel full of peat moss..and they survived and fruited so nicely. growing too.

Ooh, blueberries, yum! Salsa sounds good, though I eat jalapenos raw, sliced on sandwiches, sometimes in guacamole. I'm not sure if the biggest one is big enough to pick though.

The one thing I've been wondering about is that the leaves are drooping on the bottom half of the plant, usually during the hottest part of the day. Is this normal? A quick google search said it might be because of the heat and suggested to raise the container off the ground so the roots won't "cook." (I do have it in a terracotta pot on the concrete of my front porch stair landing.) Also read something about the problem could be it's "root bound?" I have to do more research on that, I don't know what that is...

This thread just gets lost and forgotten amid all of the 'house' threads.

Maybe it should be in a subforum or just get rid of it.

well that would be nice. Hell even I forget about it.

And I am not knocking the house threads...I really like them. But everything else just gets quickly knocked off the front page, and out of sight, out of mind.

Anyway, All I am doing right now is a little container watering and weed control. Too damn hot and muggy to do anything else outside. Five inches of rain so far this month, humid and sticky hot too. ugh.
