I'm not looking down on renting either - there's a lot to be said for the flexibility and freedom it offers. Of course the downside is that your rent money is 'wasted' money so IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO BUY then by all means do so. But I guarantee that there are a lot of people who are lured into the Dream Of House Ownership when they can't afford it and it usually ends in tears.

Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

It's also easier to get credit, credit cards and a line of credit from the bank when you own. Creditors and banks consider home owners more financially stable as well. Like Tenaj said, why pay off someone else's mortgage and end up with nothing.

One word about mortgages, most lenders try to steer people to 30 year mortgages but if you take a 15 year mortgage it's only a few dollars a month more and you have your place paid for quickly. We paid an additional 30 bucks a month to pay off our home like that.

I am definately looking into refinancing as well. Our financial situation was much different when we bought the house, as we had a lot more debt then. I think education on buying a house is so important, and I could kick myself for rushing into it! Sure, we've got a nice house in a quiet neighborhood, but financially, I wasn't exploring all the options. I remember hating living in an apartment, but it doesn't help that I am such a nomad who wants to move every two years. Husband, on the other hand, likes to stay in one place for a long time.
